It's probably old news to people in Texas, but this popped up on Discord today and I saw it for the first time.

That doesn't really sound like espionage, more like a hobby that got way out of hand.

On Wednesday charges were dropped on the Texas man....

Sounds like E-bay has federal agents assigned to look for things like this and help the seller get caught that state and local are unaware of. You can find some manuals for F16 online but, then the article talks about F35. I suspect the whole story is not in that article. Online you never know who your are talking to even in your own squad or guild. The ARMY updated it's online guidelines becasue some members were not acting in proper ARMY conduct towards females in games online and complaints were reported. The new guidelines said online you are to act exactly like you are in public representing the US ARMY. Being drunk online to the ARMY is the same as being drunk in public if it results in harassment complaints.

You can make fun of this episode and say it was a game developer goofing. The best hacking of companies is not online with code, it's of people and their weaknesses as people.

The reason I don't think this is espionage, (of the state sponsored type,) is that if you wanted to "smuggle" something out of the country I assume you would know how to do that, (seems like pretty basic spycraft,) and wouldn't engage some random person on a BBS to do your legwork.

Oleg Tishchenko and Eagle Dynamics Official Statement

Lausanne, 14 May 2019.

The Eagle Dynamics group, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, confirms that one of its employees has been jailed in the State of Utah (USA) on charges of seeking to procure, export and sell restricted US fighter jet manuals, in particular the F-16.

Eagle Dynamics confirms that it was not involved in any way in the actions of its employee who acted in a purely private context and for his own personal interests.

The Company develops all of its DCS aircraft game modules exclusively on the basis of publicly available information and has never used nor tried to obtain any classified information.

The Company launched an internal investigation into the actions of its employee, and found nothing in the company's records that relates to the facts that are being held against him. The investigation confirmed in particular that no company resources were used and that no export restricted documents were obtained or stored within the company's systems. Furthermore, the Company confirms that the employee was not involved in any of the work or research pertaining to the development of the Company's upcoming F-16 module.

The development of the F-16 and other modules currently in the pipeline will continue in order to further enhance the simulation experience of DCS World. These events will not affect Eagle Dynamics' commitment to its users and faithful community.

Thank you,
Matt Wagner
Senior Producer, Eagle Dynamics SA

In the US, people in prison broke laws. In many countries their prisoners are people who just disagreed with the government.

Your post makes you look silly.

Easy to stay out of prison here..... don't break laws.

i know a guy who got 5 to life for having 3 weed cigarettes on him.  first offense.  charged with distribution.  served 7 years.

there's quite a few guys who got life for 3 non violent offenses.  and yet we had a guy who admitted to 30 murders in court and he got 10 years in jail.

there's lots of people who deserved to be in jail for the rest of their lives and yet they get paroled and then we have people convicted of no violent offenses doing more time.

in some states jails are for profit if they dont get customers they go out of business.  and we cant allow that.

Can someone tell me why the American F-14, -16 and -18 are being made by DCS, yet the Russian MiG-29 is not.

Introduction date
F-14 Sept '74
F-18 Jan '84
F-16 July '82
MiG 29 July '82

No doubt some get off easy. I have no problem with the death penalty for murders.

The Russians have the MiG 29 as part of their ProWare, so pay the full blown military price and you get the highest fidelity. These other packages are still amateur level products despite being as complex as they are. They claim the MiG 21 can take out an F-16, yet you can buy a MiG 21 for less than $30k (of course in major need of refurbishment).

BTW, if anyone can tell me where to download the MiG 21 template from MAG3 I would appreciate it.
