well actually.... it would be one of the few early war (in 1 form) planes that would be useful and used without an RPS.  It would catch a 190 on the deck and easily outturn a merlin powered mustang...  It would perform pretty badly after about 12-15k but do 390mph or so but... so what?   most people in AH live at those alts and with better turn performance you would have a mustang that.....

would fite!   A "fun" mustang... what a concept.  fun to fly and fun to fite instead of merely cowardly and/or annoying.

What Lazs said.
It also makes it possible for a whole bunch of "one-plane one-skill" guys to fly in an RPS.   :)

A Mustang (British or American) with the original engine and all of the firepower options would be so cool. Imagine a Mustang with 4 x 20mm cannons... Here little Tempest, come down low and play with me! Like the F4U-1C, I would save the 20mm option for desperate times when the skies are full of N1K's and Tempests.

Yes, a mustang that can turn, go 400 mph on the deck and is armed with 4x20mm cannon.  Sounds like a great idea to me.  At least it would cut down on the niki population, since they would all switch to it.

Well, that'd be even better.  That way all the Niki pilots AND all the LA7 pilots would switch, especially if the cannons are Hispanos, in which case probably 85% of the spit pilots would switch to it to.

It will "only" do about 335-340 on the deck but it would be a fun plane.

We need early war planes hang..  most people don't even like mustangs and want some variety.  the only way to have some very famous early war planes in the game is some sort of RPS.   With the mustang 1 you could still fly a mustang early war and.... you could learn how to dogfite as a bonus! <G>

Why not? Because the two most needed planes in AH are with out a doubt the Hurricane and 109E, followed by the He111.
