Isn't that the truth.

Imagine, flying along ans seeing a Lancaster.  You close in and dive below him to pull up and hit his belly where he cannot shoot back.

Thats the price your going to pay for having x3 the bombload of a B17.

Hans.

Wouldn't 6 B-17 in a tight box be safer and more efficient then a single Lancaster with 5 escorts?
B-17 had abysmal payload, but al least it could deliver it on target.

Maybe they will make it so that it is iconless at night...
We intercepted 6 buffs in darkness last night and it was real hard to get them in range for an icon to show up. And that was with 8k icons...
Give it a window load out that spoofs the game radar?

With that pathetic defensive loadout (in terms of callibre and coverage) the RAF was smart to switch to the night blitz.

Pongo, if you get rid of the icons for bombers at night, why don't you get rid of the GPS-based map and the target visibility at the same time.

I red the analysis and it said that more then half of the ordnance did not even hit within 50 miles of the target during those nighttime bombings.
There were good only for morale (we are doing something...) and on large enemy cities  illuminated by resistance operatives or low-level fighers dropping incendiary.

I understand the desire to have everything. Just remember, how many times did you see a divebomber in the WB Main Arena? What about much demanded Mossie after the first two weeks? Why produce a plane nobody is going to fly after the novelty wears off? There are more items on the list I would give priority before the Lancaster.

Just my $0.02

Can we have the ground mapping radar and "Gee" nav aids that gave a target fix accurate to 2 miles? How about "Oboe" that was accurate to 300 yards at 300 miles range? That was used by almost all pathfinder aircraft later in the war.
None of this would work without icons off and flares and searchlights for visibility.

The accuracy after the 1942 introduction of Gee was sufficient to attack large targets like cities with ease. Fighters wern't used as pathfinders, it was a combination of 4 engined heavies and Mosquitos. Later in the war, accuracy of night attacks was similar to the USAAF daylight raids. Pinpoint targets in France were often attacked and the collateral damage was usually minimal.

no matter what, if a THUNDERBIRD is the pilot, attacking fighters will be toast.

Many LANCs had their tail turret replaced with twin .50s as a non-standard field modification.

They were built with quad .303 tail guns which were useless against armoured fighters.

In actual operation, the gunners were often told NOT to fire. This was becasue tracer or gunfire gave away their position to enemy nightfighters.

The exception was against enemy searchlights which were a worse danger if they bracketed the aircraft.

And remember, the Lancasters could only go up to 24,000 feet.  They will be within easy reach of Fw-190s, and flak.
