This Panzer IV Ausf F2 of the 21st Panzer Division was knocked out by a British shell penetrating its side armour during the second Battle of El Alamein in late 1942.
Afrika Korps vehicles of his period were repainted at depots in Italy in an irregular scheme of 2/3 brown and 1/3 brown-grey before being shipped to Africa. Gun barrels and exhausts were often left in their original factory grey paint as these required a special heat-proof lacquer.
