Download Problem
« on: August 10, 2019, 12:35:43 AM »
Friday I couldn't download the FSO or the Melee maps, in would just hang there and time out.
In desperation I deleted AH3 and tried to reload it. Now I can't reload AH3 at all!

Here's the dxdiag report:

The server is ok, I just got the new map downloaded to mine. For the full download of the game it could be a browser issue. Try the download with a different browser. For not loading the new maps while in game thats odd.

As Fugi said, try another browser. Chrome has been known to drop a bit here and there along the download path, so if you're using that it definitely pays to try e.g. Firefox or Edge.

If that doesn't help, make a "Deep Restart": Keep the Shift button pressed while clicking Shut Down. Start normally.

If that doesn't help, try resetting the networking components:

  • Right click the Windows icon in the lower left corner, left click Power Shell (Administrator). Wait for it to fully load. The Command Prompt (Admin) will do as well.
  • Type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes, press Enter. Don't restart at this point if it asks you to.
  • Type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without the quotes, press Enter, don't restart.
  • Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" without the quotes, press Enter.
  • Close the Power Shell window, restart your computer.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I tried the above and it still won't download.
What happens is the initial download loads, but when I save and start to run the program it stops because Stdshape.res can't connect.
I attached a copy of the screen shot

I was able to download World Of Tanks to my computer without any problems.
I reset my firewall back to defaults and retried to download AH3, no help.
Friday I had uninstalled War Online Pacific prior to all this trouble, could this have caused this problem?
Don't know how, but who knows?
Tried to reload WOP without success.

WOP is a different game so it shouldnt have done anything to your AH game.

This sounds like the issue they were having a while back. Maybe it has creeped back in.You can try this http://dload.hitechcreations.com/old_releases/AHIII3400OLD.EXE Its an older version of the game Skuzzy put up. Once it installs, log on and let the auto updater bring the game up to the newest version. It was a work around when they had the issues back then, it may work now.

This sure is a head scratcher.

Here's a update
For whatever reason I was able to download WOP.
Still can't download AH3, but was able to download the old version from Fugi.
But the auto updater hangs with message "Could not download ACESHIGHIII.EXE"
when I try to go Online Arenas.

That's starting to sound like a firewall issue. A port setting is what comes into mind. It also might be that for some reason the download server for HT has been blacklisted by your ISP.

If you're using the Windows Firewall, start by resetting it to default. If you use a firewall device or have configured your modem, check the port settings. Resetting your modem may also help, especially if you don't know anything about the advanced settings.

A clean start may be better than trying to modify single settings if you don't know where to look at.

HTC is moving the servers again. That might indicate a problem on the server side.

I still think the OP just needs to keep trying to download the current version.

Still no luck, turned firewall off and still won't download.
