Lest we forget.

My father was assigned to landing craft for the battle at Okinawa.  His older brother was on an aircraft carrier at the same time at Okinawa.  The only two things my father ever said about Okinawa was the m1 carbine when hot would go full auto.  The second thing was it was the only place he had ever been where it could be raining sun shining and the wind blowing sand in your face at the same time.

One of the last times I spoke to my uncle and he'd mentioned Okinawa was the great fear they had of the kamikaze pilots.  He was well into his eighties when he told me .

Dropping the bombs saved a lot of lives.
Including a lot of Japanese lives, ironically.
