This was a single plane sortie and I found myself at 25k with a couple of pursuers who I attacked and then I found a bomber formation on the way home.

I did rearm once or twice.

No rage quitting.

I just don't like how stealth and strategy as used in the war has been slowly excised from the sim.

Actually, every side had an air space controller.  If a patrol spotted an unknown/enemy fighter or formation, it was radioed back to HQ and then broadcast out to every pilot on the command channel.

So if you think the current radar settings are bogus because it's showing you on radar when you're within range, think again. While WWII pilots didn't have a real-life updating map with icons, a quick radio call to the lady plotters at the operations room from your cockpit could tell you EXACTLY what was reported and where and when. CAP has been around since WWI - and still, today who's sole purpose is to report on unknown contacts, make ID intercepts and engage. And it's the CAP + Radar that feeds into the operations rooms who update their plotter maps as shown below. Not to mention other pilots who also announce contacts on the command channel.  It's just as real as our icon map - the only difference is that you don't have time to plot out on your map what is where cause you know, you're flying a machine. With complicated components. And controls. And measuring your fuel consumption. And maintaining formation. And scanning for enemy fighters/bombers. And make sure you didn't get yourself in thick into bad weather. With airplanes that were notorious for breaking down or having issues.  So we need to forgive the simple icon map Hitech gave us and focus on the fact it allows us to have more fun than the labour of flying a 1940's airplane. :D
