Turt,  I looked at the arena settings by looking at the hardness of objects in the arena setup in the TA.  It may be that you are missing your targets.  :)  As far as the lead computed sight goes, go to:  clipboard>options>arena setup>environment>arena settings>flight mode flags> and check or uncheck lead computed sight to enable or disable the sight.  I can't remember, but I think the Tab key will change the target when the lead computed sight is enabled.

Yes it is... I have been complaining about for years but it has
been explained to me (and I agree), if the killing is turned
back on, then those that want to exploit newbs will come to the
TA... its really sad  :furious

Damage is usually off in the TA. We can turn damage on for bombing and see how it goes.

You can also practice on offline maps like Italy for the scenario. You can save the arena settings in SEA and load them offline for the same damage etc.

If you want to review some training let me know. I'm rusty from lack of practice but I know the drill.

Its  been many moons since bombing damage showed in the TA.....

We used to have it turned on and had it set to regenerate destroyed objects, hangars, etc at something like  30 to 60 seconds

Also, you used to  be able to shoot your opponent in the TA and if you had applied enough hits, their plane would blow up, but instantly regenerate a second or 2 later.......similar to how it is now but no boom effect with a fresh plane popping right back in flight....without actually  sending someone to the tower.....

I don't remember who it was that changed the settings regarding the planes being shot/blown up but it was before 2003....

Bomb damage showing setting got changed when ahta08.res map got updated from ahta06.res map....so 2008, iirc

Hope this helps

In all the years Ive played Ive never seen newb's getting hosed in the TA. Is it not possible to turn on damage when bombing only?. This makes completely no sense to me to try to hone dive bombing skills when you cant see it you hit your target. To switch to outside view/look back doesnt work well.

You're welcome.   :aok

We're going to try some different settings with bomb damage in the TA.

If you practice solo you can practice offline with whatever settings you want. For example you could copy arena settings in SEA for Anzio, then use the Italy map offline and load the Anzio arena settings.

To practice online you can do the same thing with a custom arena. They are quick and easy to set up once you have the settings file saved or if you use the default settings.

Filming your practice can also help when you train alone.

Then u haven't been on long... very long... its been over 12 yrs but
there was a time when shooting a plane down was enabled but if I remember
correctly, HTC or the TA training group turned it off due to to all the complaints
of the experienced coming in and disrupting those who were not so experienced

Turt,  I have spent many a time in the offline choice with any map I have downloaded in the game.  You can play with the arena settings and object hardness, regeneration times and even destroy specific objects anywhere on the map with a click on the mouse.  I'm sure FLS would be happy to help you.  You can fiddle around in the arena settings and change ownership of bases, etc..  You just need to explore a bit offline in the arena settings and become a little familiar with what things do.  Again, FLS could be of help or I can help you explore a little if you see me around.  FLS will have a better grasp of settings though.

As far as bombing in the TA, I think if they could adjust the settings for regenerating objects would be helpful.  Allow someone to bomb an object with a hardness of the MA settings, but regenerate in 60 seconds as TC suggested would be great.

Also, there is a terrain that Bustr made for tanking, bombing, etc. that you can download and use offline for practice.  I have it, but don't know where I downloaded it from.

As I mentioned we're trying different settings so currently you can bomb in the TA and you'll get a kill message, the target will respawn right away.

You can also strafe the field AA guns. You cannot damage other aircraft by shooting but they'll still get holes from hits as before.

Arena rules still apply.

How long have you been able to allow buildings to go boom and turn off damage to other players in the TA at the same tine?

I've been able to change settings since I became a trainer. That will be 10 years next summer. Not sure when those settings were coded.

We've also turned on normal damage by request when players asked for it or for training clinics.

Players sometimes exhibit poor impulse control so the tradition is to keep damage off for the sake of actual new people.

It's a simple matter to set up a custom TA with any settings you like.

Players do exhibit poor impulse control, I'll give ya that one.

Don't read to deep in to what I am going to ask you:

If the TA is for training, does that mean air to air training or all training? Defeats the purpose of disabling structure damage for those wanting to practice any type of bombing or CAS types of missions. Why would anyone set up a custom arena to train when there is a dedicated arena for it?

know what I mean?

Are there any other aspects of the game that you have disabled that could be enabled for use as training for players?

Just to be clear, this is not a jab or a cheap shot. This is an honest question.

Anyone can look at the arena settings and see what is available. They are on everyone's clipboard in the arena.

You don't really need damage in the TA because you have the dive bomb sight enabled. If you just practice with the dive bomb sight it becomes a crutch. Just use it to learn the sight picture. To practice without the dive bomb sight you need a custom or offline arena. Same with level bombing. For basic practice in the TA the green cross gives you the information you need without dropping your bomb and without new players getting bombed as they sit on the runway looking at clipboard help. You can also use film to evaluate performance.

If you set up your own TA you can boot anyone who doesn't play nice. You can practice on any terrain. Limit the plane set. You can set wind and time of day. :aok

Blowing stuff up is fun, so with the lower traffic in the TA we're trying something different, despite the reasons I just listed.  :aok

Is there a way for the layer to disable the green cross or have it disabled by default?
