allocation problems
« on: August 01, 2001, 07:12:00 PM »
Hello there forum   :)
Got some little problems regarding object editing etc. Wonder if anyone can help.

1 When prompted for field ownership of city, factory or hq, what does one enter? After all, it belongs to a country, not a field???

2. When creating task groups, how does one allocate them to a certain port?

3. Just did a testrun on TG intercept in H2H. When I hit a ship properly I got the message "hangar destroyed", but the ships proved unsinkable.

4. When building your map, where is the option to make the grid and fieldnumber appear

Best regards.
Angus
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Angus, click on the link below and get this AHEhelp file that I had put together.  It should be of some use to you.
 http://accesswave.ca/~tscott/AH-stuff/AHeditor&stuff/AHEhelp.ZIP

Question 1 and 2 will be answered in the file called Notes-for-Editor

3. Just did a testrun on TG intercept in H2H. When I hit a ship properly I got the message "hangar destroyed", but the ships proved unsinkable.

If your "ProtectObjects" in the arena settings is set to 1 then you can't sink your ships.  You would need to set it to 0 (zero).

4. When building your map, where is the option to make the grid and fieldnumber appear.

If you are talking about the clipboard map then you are out of luck.  You'll need to make your own clipboard map and place numbers on it to show the fields.

Are you telling us that the clipboard map has to be built seperate from the terrain?
IE. you have to use a Graphics tool and "paint" the thing from scratch?

Search this forum and you will find instructions for making clipboard maps.

Well, basically, yes.
I managed to make a nice clipboard map from the original BMB that was used to make the map itself, you just have to make four quarters out of the original in the correct resolution and PRESTO, there it is. I used photoshop to alter the file.
If you use ogre's mapmaker, I think it also delivers a BMP as well as the terrain files,  -you can use that.
I actually cropped some actual landscape with ogres mapmaker, turned into grayscale, addad some contrast, converted it for AH with BMB2MAP, doubling the actual elevation, and it turned out pretty cool   ;)

OK...4 Quarters = 1Dollar...Ogre's mother is going grey, BMP2MAP link on HTC is dead, and I should search for the 1 grain of sand that is magic on the beach. And on top of all that, I get different problems every time I hit BUILD. Even if I don't change anything.

OH, and someone stole the "Search" link off the BBS (at least it's not on mine anymore).

Get a screen capture utility and have it running minimized, when you get the location you desire in Ogres mapmaker do a screen capture and use it to make the clipboard map.

I use Irfanview to capture and Photoshop to edit the capture to a 512x512 8 bit 256 color bmp. You no longer have to use 4 256x256 squares for the clipboard map.

Then using the terr.bmp in the AH editor directory I make sure the bmp I created lines up. Resize the terr.bmp to 512x512 and flip it upright and align the capture.bmp, then rename to your terrains name and place in the terrains folder

The build problem your having is a bug, follow the work-around below.

Edit your terrain then switch to object editing then close the editor and save when prompted, close the application and restart it.

Re-open the editor, click edit objects and close and save again, then close the application - restart the editor then build your terrain.

Thanks jihad!

I worked through my editor problems and with much the same "Work Around" I was able to get the editor to build correctly.
At least, the original Editor.  This new thing is buggy. (Starting another post)

Thanks also for the advice on the maps.
I have yet to try it, but am I incorrect in my thinking that the mapmaker utility only shows part of the area in the preview window?
If so, then a capture would be incomplete.

I used to have Wabbits BMP2MAP utility, but I lost it in a crash a few months ago and now the link on the HTC site is dead.

Anyone have a correct address or can email it to me?

Still works for me

That's nice.
(sigh)

But that is not Wabbit's BMP2MAP utility.
That is Ogre's mapmaker utility.

Actually, I found a copy of Wabbit's utility on a CD I burned some time ago.

Thanks all,
