He held out
« on: November 11, 2019, 08:30:56 PM »
My Great Uncle Willie, veteran of Utah Beach and the European Campaign, passed away this morning at 11:11 AM, November 11.  He was 104, and passed away 75 years - almost to the day - after he was knocked out of the war by an 88 shell, during the Battle of Hurtgen Forest.

B-24H Liberator SN 294837-T, "The Jinx", 848th BS, 490th BG, 8th AF, RAF Station Eye, delivered 1943.  Piloted by Lt. Thomas Keyes, named by by his crew, and adorned with bad luck symbols, the aircraft survived the entire war.
