Lots of screen freezes
« on: November 19, 2019, 05:27:32 AM »
It never used to happen, but for the past week or so it is a regular thing, and I'm not seeing any rhyme or reason as to why. Sometimes the game will play fine for hours, and sometimes I'll have half a dozen freezes (for up to five seconds long, but usually only a second or two) in the span of ten minutes. I've tried rebooting my computer and sometimes that seems to work, and sometimes it seems to make no difference at all. I've heard that other players are having similar issues. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Squaddie says it it likely a Windows issue and it would be difficult to pin down. Welcome to the new normal? :(

For resource intensive Windows 10 issues there's a few precautions you can make. Some are permanent, some you may want to do every time you're planning a gaming session.
  • Make a clean start by pressing Shift while clicking Shut down. Start normally.
  • Check the update situation of Store and uninstall the Store Apps you don't use.
  • Check Windows Update.
  • In the Settings disable background activity either for everything or at least for most apps.
  • If you use Chrome, disable leaving background processes to run after closing in its settings.
  • In Edge, disable preloading sites. Same for other browsers as well.
  • Disable Activity History.
There's no guarantee that doing all that will fix your issues but it helps narrowing the potential culprits.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

There's been many reports of stuttering when running the game in DX11.
I don't know which version your using, but you may give DX9 a try, if you're not already.

I am having a lot of issues with Dx11 kicking me out and discoing me. With Dx9, Last night, I had just took off, first sortie, and then the game minimized to the start screen. I crashed. Didn't have any more problems after that though.

This may be anecdotal, about a month ago I unchecked Play Voices in Sequence and stopped getting most of those lockups.
