The only problem I have with the F-8 is the need to be very careful maneuvering with ordnance. I'll be trying to jockey my ride around to rocket some good will at a tank and the next thing I know I'm showing off my upside down pancake technique.
I actually prefer using the F-8 against bombers as it's wings seem resistant to .50 cal return fire.
The A-8 will kill a bomber faster but the F-8 will survive the encounter more often.
In pure air-to-air engagements the most important skill to have is knowing when to run.
Not exactly glorious, but engaging N1K2s or Yak-3s with an F-8 puts you on a very short leash.

Using rockets force the F-8 into return-fire-range from ground forces and the armor a F-8 has doesn't
help worth a hill of beans against 20mm, and 40mm fire. Also, there are too many tankers that know
how to "main gun" quite well.
