Yep I finally tried playing War Thunder...... After having my nephew bug me about it and a couple other friends were trying it out I finally said what the heck and downloaded it...
Now don't get me wrong I do think War Thunder can be fun with a friend or 2 for a quick few minutes of tank killing (if you can get into a match with over 3 members in your squad) I would really prefer to be climbing out in a set of buffs rather than sitting there watching a loading type icon as the game tries to figure out what battle to stick you in for anywhere from 5 to 10 min. Though we did have some fun, we killed and got killed, mainly got killed. But I have to say I can only take so much of the in your face 10' away combat that seems to be War Thunders bread and butter. Not to mention the, cough "realism". My friend tried flying one of the planes during one battle and all of the sudden I hear "WTF is happening?" as his aircraft started doing some strange aerobatic dance that had very little to do with his control inputs. I myself didn't even bother with the planes because I could see just by how they were maneuvering over me as I attempted to stalk my prey that they were not up to my standards of flight after years of playing Aces High.
In short after my experiences there it made me realize after what, 17 or 18 years of playing Aces High how much I loved and still love this game. When I up a plane and start climbing out I sometimes feel a kind of peace that I don't experience with any other game. I think my mom was right when I was working on an worksheet for a substance abuse class I had to take after messing my life up for a couple years with that wonderful substance known as alcohol (have not had a drink in over 5 years after having my eyes rudely opened)

Anyway the question on the worksheet asked something like "Can you think of something in your life that made you truly feel joy?" or something like that. I sat and thought about it and was having trouble so I asked Mom and after a second she said "I think you do when you are flying your planes in Aces High" I thought about this and realized she was totally right. Mom's huh? Who knew?

Weather I was bombing something or having a good dog fight or getting that totally awesome shot in a tank or just talking to the guys in the squad there have been many times where Aces High has brought joy to my life though the years.
Any how I hopped back on again after months of being away though still paying and had a great time and rejoined what's left of my old squad, the Birds Of Prey. And as a bonus that friend that was having so much "fun" trying to get a plane to fly right in War Thunder is planning on starting his 2 week trial on Aces High this coming weekend.

I'll see if I can get him to stick around and I plan on logging more time in the "air" as well.
So thank you Hitech and crew for creating this joy giving game. And for you folks that are griping about this or that regarding game play or what have you I say sit back, relax, take the bad with the good and get back in there and DO YOUR BEST TO WIN GLORY FOR YOUR CHOSEN CHESS PIECE!!!!

There will always be problems with any game but if you really think about it there are so few that are anything like what we have here. With that being said I plan on doing my best to make the MA friendly and fun for all players old and new alike. Maybe that should be my new years resolution.

Well I think I'm done here. This isn't my usual type of post but I hope that maybe some will think about what I've written here and come to the same conclusions. Have a good night or day depending on your side of the pond and I'll see you in the sky.
