Metal Earth

I just found out about this hobby last month. Found them at a gaming/calendar store. They were pretty cheap so I picked up 4 of them. Little did I know what I had got myself into. These things are really cool. They are very tiny, however, and quite challenging. Have you guys heard of these before? I think they are great. Their new series are painted now and highly detailed. Here are my first two so far:

I believe  they are 144th, though I have no idea. It doesn't say on the box. Some of the new "icon" models are little bigger. I guess the smallness of them adds to the fun LOL. Definitely makes them more challenging. Very nice detail on them.

I built the Black Pearl a longtime ago when they came out. They are kind of cool.

Their boats look awesome. Probably out of my league for now.

They look like paper model plane cutouts done by lazer with very thin metal.

These models have really spiked my interest. I like the plastic models, but cannot paint them. These new metal models have a lot of detail and it's easier for me on the couch  . That guys models are insane. Real artistry. I can only imagine the amount of work and precision that takes. I found this guys channel the other day who does plastic models. This is a tamiya P51D he did. Amazing work of art.

Me too man.. Have recently started building again, after 40+ years..
Kits are easy to get, and pretty cheap.. Supplies are another thing..
$3.50 for a bottle of paint, and $3.00 shipping, EACH.. LOL, ridiculous!
Finally found an online shop that combines shipping, and ships fast..

On the bench right now, the notorious 1/32 Revell P51B, 1971 kit..
Yep, the good old vintage mold from the 60s, same exact one I built as a kid..
The one with the INFAMOUS 6pc canopy that has a horrible fit..

 , my results are MUCH BETTER this time..

Painting is the fun part! I find that putting them together are fairly easy, adding the details with paint and stuff is where the challenge is. Heres a couple of my resent builds.

What scale is the pony, and what did process did you use for weathering..
Sludge wash, pin wash, panel liner pens???

I am trying something new, watercolor weathering over Enamel color coat..
That way I can eliminate the lacquer sealer coat, between the color and weathering..
Just use one Lacquer top coat over everything.. Less coats is better..

1/48 scale, I used an oil wash for the panel lines. Wasnt too happy with it as it had a bit of a blue tint to it. Smoke was just lit thin coats with the air brush, grime was an "engine oil" effect paint. After every effect coat or decal coat I spray a good coat of future on it and finished with a clear dulcoat.

I got some pencils, panel liner paints and a couple of other effects type paints to try out on the next one.

What type of base Color coat, enamel, lacquer, or acrylic???
I tried acrylics, didn't work out well for me, so back to good ole enamels..
But oil paints for weathering will dissolve the enamel base coat, so it requires
a lacquer sealer.. Future huh??? I'll have to try that in the future..
More coats of whatever, washes out the tiny details, so looking for a way
to avoid that..

That buffable "Metalizer" paint is very interesting too.. Have an 1/32 F104C in the line up!
Looking forward to trying that out.. Might try it on something smaller first..

Man, tons of new processes and coatings out there that I have never seen..
Model building has come a long way in my absence..

Those look nice! I'm just not in the point of my life to be able to paint models. Don't really have the space. I don't have the first clue how either.
