Kittyhawk Mk IIa (P-40L) of 3 Squadron RAAF based at Foggia, Italy in November 1943. 3 Squadron operated from Malta against Axis targets in Sicily in July 1943 before moving to Sicily for operations against mainland Italy. They were only RAAF unit to receive the the Kittyhawk Mk IIa (P-40L), which was a lightened P-40F, and they were primarily tasked with ground attack missions.
This aircraft ins unusual in that it carries the RAF temperate scheme of Dark Green and Dark Earth over Sky(type S) paint usually seen on early war fighters. Also instead of a letter code, this plane features a white diamond in it's place.
