Vive Pro 1440x1600 dual AMOLED per eye, 90hz, 110
Samsung Odyssey 1440x1600 duel AMOLED per eye, 90hz, 110
Valve Index 1440x1600 dual LCD per eye, 120hz, 130
Pimax 5K 2560x1440 dual CLPL per eye, 144hz, 200

I think the CV1 is still the best headset for the money. It's comfortable to wear and it's typically plug and play without issues. The only thing I don't like about it is the built in mic quality.

If your PC can give you 120 FPS with the Valve Index it may be a good choice for an upgrade.

Spec wise I'm most curious about the HP  reverb with it's higher resolution (for seated flight sim games)

I've been looking into the Pimax headsets- and they look great. However, they appear to need a lot of tweaking by the buyer. E.G. the headstrap is no good. The face 'gasket' is no good. Owners are on the hook to upgrade these things to the point of viability.
That said, they look pretty darn good.
I've got an original Oculus as well, and I'm also looking. My plan right now is to wait until I see what the new HP/Valve/Microsoft headset looks like and its price point. Then I'll make up my mind. I think we're on the border line between the late first generation headsets and the second generation.

Its looking like Valve Index went to top of list for me. When it comes back into production again. Seen similar reports on Pimax, not user friendly.
Also thinking of a 2070 or 2080 card as an upgrade too.

I started on the HTC Vive. My only complaint was that reading the gauges was sometimes difficult as the numbers were blurry.
I tried to mitigate this with super sampling. It did help some, but it ultimately came down the the resolution limits of the HTC Vive.
I've since upgraded to a Valve Index and I am very happy.  The resolution is great. I am also able to run at 144Hz/FPS.  I'm still super sampling the game, but the cockpit dials and gauges are crisp and clear and easy to read.

There is a rumour that Oculus have a new Quest in the wings with wider FoV; lighter; and higher refresh rates.

+1 on that. My oldest son is already scheming on saving for that to upgrade from his ACER VR101. (His brother already has the 1.5 Quest.)
