OK... lets try a history lesson...
« on: April 09, 2020, 02:02:19 PM »
This is a metaphor...
I seem to recall that in University History classes (not sure which) that the defeat of the Spanish Armada in the mid 1600s was not the fall
of the Spanish Empire... it was the beginning
Spain's problem at the time was it had gotten so wealthy (from the gold of the new world) that its exports were way out numbered by its imports
Although their main export was "Spanish Steel" they imported almost everything else INCLUDING most of their ships (built in Italy and the Netherlands), most of its food, etc.
Now, what lesson can be taken from this bit of history and who can it be applied to?

The defeat of the Spanish Armada was more about the rise of the British than the decline of the Spanish.

"The defeat of the Armada was a major turning point in English history. It saved the throne of Elizabeth I and guaranteed English independence from Spain. The Spanish saw the invasion as a crusade and one that would stamp out the heresy of Protestantism in England. The failure of the invasion meant that Protestantism became more entrenched and less sympathetic to Catholicism. Indeed, in the aftermath of the Armada, Protestantism became part of the national identity. To be English was to be a Protestant and to reject Catholicism. The attempted Spanish invasion led to the adoption of an anti-Catholic discourse, known as Popery and this was an important factor in English political life for over two centuries. The (defeat of the) Armada did not end Spanish maritime supremacy but it did lead to England becoming a formidable naval power. This allowed it to found colonies and trading companies in the early seventeenth century that were to lay the foundation for the British Empire."

He must be referring to Bishop Land, they export the most sheep in the world, but in return they import the cheapest fighters in the game: Yak-3s and Brews.

Bish want cheap fighters, they just don't want to work for them.

It's All so clear, how can none of you see this correlation!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

    Since we are home schooling..............

Once upon a time there were sheep, but no one to protect them. They cried out out who who shall be our savior". There was no answer. Then they noticed in the trees there appeared many squirrels with cameras."Why why do you have the cameras?" the sheep questioned. The squirrels replied "We have been sent by the one to protect but not to protect you."
Suddenly a great roar was heard as sky lemmings swarmed around the sheep threatening their peaceful existence. Luckily they were quite unskilled at their craft but more and more lemmings appeared. Just as the sheep thought they would be captured they saw their salvation as other sky beings clad in Green knocked down lemming after lemming until the remainder fled in haste. Turning their tail on friend and foe alike they scurried away and the Sheep were saved to live another day.

What does this remind you of?  :bolt:

Spain was too busy with the Inquisition.  Interior programs kept true expansion curtailed in the New World.

Any argument can be made for and against.  History is written by the winners.  Prior to the invention of photography and audio recording, persons of history only left diaries, journals and letters for the historians to work with.

Either you take that a face value or consider them falsely written.  No empirical evidence will ever be 100% for or against.  We are left to our own personal thought, suspicions, and theories.

From a conspiracy point of view, this was fallout from when the Templar Knights were overthrown.  Royal families were still exercising their authority over the Church keeping the Pope and his representatives away from any power.  England, France and Spain were the superpowers with the navies.  No king or Queen wanted to be number two in that trio.  Ego played a huge part in national direction.

Conspiracy theory: Illuminati placed secret agents in the Courts of the monarchy and in the Holy See of the Vatican keeping them all at each others' throats.

History is under constant scrutiny, revision and refinement. Even with sources that do not involve photography (still and moving) and audio recording there are comparisons of written data from multiple perspectives on both (or many) sides of an event that can provide both a broader and clearer picture. Yes, there will always be multiple professional opinions but that, too, offers comparison and contrast. Crackpot theories and conspiracy driven rhetoric generally stands out from legitimate academic study.

This could be moved to the Wishlist forum.  It would be cool to have Spanish galleon ships added to the game.  Jolly Roger could be a naval only country.
