oculus rift issue with controllers
« on: April 16, 2020, 09:52:44 PM »
Hi,
I"ve just come back to AH with Oculus rift. It worked perfectly for a sortie- and looked GREAT! but suddenly, the next time I booted up the game and enabled oculus, while I could see AH on the monitor, all I saw on the oculus was the rift store, with a message that my controllers weren't connected or needed new batteries.
I have no desire to use the stupid hand controllers in the game- is there a way to disable it so Oculus Rift doesn't look for them as essential for playing AH?
Also.. is there any way to turn off the background music? When I"m trying to solve these problems, that brutal music just grates on me!
Thanks Guys,
Can't wait to get up in the air and be a helpless victim again.
cheers

Yeah, I have to set up "Boundary" just about every time I get on. Mostly because there is a bug"Battery is low/No controllers". You should have seen a prompt to "continue setup in Vr"?  I strt Oculus before AH, although for me...I always get the prompt"use your Oculus VR". Make sure you are using the DX11 version...or the version offered by Oculus Library? The issue that you have(as described)...is different than any I have run into though :uhoh

When the Oculus program interrupts the game on start up you can select the game on the menu bar. It's still active, you just have to click on it.

For the music issue go to the advanced tab in game sounds.

For the hand controllers just go to devices in the Oculus program and remove them.

Actually, the menu bar is placed knife edge on, and I can't select anything on it.
IT does appear that with some fooling around I can get behind the menu screen and click on AH.
The other issue is that the game makes me reprogram my CH stuff every time I boot it up. I spend an hour mapping keys and buttons, and then when I log off- it all seems to disappear.
I'm likely doing something stupid with that.
thanks guys

Ok, the game remembers my key and stick maps in non virtual mode, but as soon as I go to the VR headset, it loses all of them.
In fact, it loses them between flights. Sometimes, I map a button, press ok, then map another button, and the previous button has gone walkabout again.
This is pretty frustrating. Obviously, if I can't map my HOTAS, it's going to be impossible to play in VR mode.
Drat!

All help appreciated!

The game keeps a separate controller map for VR. You have to be in VR to set up your controllers. Try running the game as administrator if it's not saving the settings.

If you can't see the Oculus menu bar reset your view in Oculus.

Ok, I HAVE been setting the controls while in Oculus Rift.
The game still isn't saving them. Or rather, it's only saving some of them. I can't even count how many times I've tried to set the x and y axis of my CH flight stick for roll and elevator.  The VR version appears to be absolutely FUBAR on my computer.
Oh, and the 'remove hand controllers' button in oculus doesn't work for some damn' reason.
Furthermore, about 99 percent of the time when I boot it up in oculus, the view is skewed either left or fight. I can center the view in oculus, but not in AH.
You know, it shouldn't be this hard.
I bought a soaring game called condor, plugged in, named my controls, and ten minutes later I'm behind the tow plane.
I'm not sure whether the issue is with the AH interface or some problem with the Oculus Rift itself, but I'm getting a bit frustrated.
AH is a great game, but I don't want to go back to playing it on the regular monitor.
Cheers.

There is a center tracker command in AH that will center the VR view, just map it to a button press.

Are you using a powered hub for the joystick? I'm wondering if your USB ports lack sufficient power for everything when you add VR.

Seems unlikely.. it’s a powered hub and works fine on n all my other games. I had zero problems with AH when I first tried VR. Since then I notice that recent updates have not ncluded support for those POS Oculus rift hand controllers. Maybe my issues are connected.

Just a thought. Are you using the "Public Test" version of Oculus? That caused quite a few problems for me. Only other thing I can think of, try setting up your "Boundary", again. I had this happen with my Rift DK-1. One of the Sensors had moved out of the "Zone" I set it up in. It sort of twisted everything. Hope you can get it figured out. I know it sucks  :uhoh

anybody know the command to center the screen in VR mode? I went through all the key commands and couldn't find one.
Argh.
On the other hand,  I had a lovely soaring flight in Condor 2.
sigh. Now, if i could just mount a 20mm on the Blanik.
Cheers

The Tracker Center command that centers the view is in the View menu in controller setup.

I found the command: Centro F4.
I also figured out how to disable the oculus hand controllers n AH! That seems to have solved the button mappings problem. We’ll see tomorrow when I boot up the game again. Quite excited to start getting my butt shot off?

Well, I thought I had the oculus rift control map issue sorted.
Three times today I cleared all the maps on stick and throttle and re-entered them.
Each time when I started flight some of the buttons had reverted back to some sort of default map or something.
Twice I redid the engine start button while on the runway, and had it work.
Next sortie... gone again.
This could be a deal breaker for me
