Joystick and throttle profiles
« on: June 17, 2020, 06:03:30 PM »
Got the Thrustmaster T1600m stick and the throttle combo
Been trying to figure out how to set it up properly.. not having much luck with it..
I know in the past you could get a profile from someone and copy it to your settings folder

Is that still possible?

I would love to get  profile already set up and then tweak from there
If someone can provide their profile and actually advise me where to put it in the AH file
If not, I guess I will need to keep playing with it, I never used a hotas setup in the past and it is all new to me..

Thanks

NwBie

Having trouble programming it, or having trouble figuring out where you want what function?

A little of both, too many damn buttons lol.
I guess I am just going to have to muddle my way through it to figure it out. I guess the instant gratification part of my was disappointed that it was going to be this much of a pain in the arse.. :)

The problem with using someone else's profile is that you have to learn it.

You can use one as a starting point and then customize it to your liking. They are just jsm files.

I'd start with the obvious ones like basic views, weapons, roll and pitch on the stick, yaw and throttle on the throttle.

On my T16000m stick I also have the Zoom and Clipboard toggles. The center button is for Looking Front Up for following the enemy! The slider on the stick base would be nice for RPM but it's quite easy to hit it accidentally, making you wonder why WEP doesn't work!

On my throttle (an older TM model) I have the Vox tangents for Range and Squad, a button for Looking Up to combine it with the views on the hat, and WEP.

I've assigned Flaps Up and Down, Engine start, Gears, Bomb (Secondary Weapon), Weapon Select, Bomb bay Door, Damage etc. on the buttons but I usually find myself hitting the keyboard for those.

Sounds like good choices Bizman. There might also be priorities to consider if using VR. Things you don't want to be hunting on a keyboard or waiting for Voice Attack.

Easy in-game again.

OK, ths is what I have.

This is my T16000m.jsm file. Down load it, copy and paste it to C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\settings if your game is at the default location. Basically drop it into the settings folder. Not sure if it would help you, nor am I sure how much is set up on it.

Second I had made this for when I was setting mine up.

Print out a few copies and as you program buttons write them down so you know whats where. For the first few weeks I was tweaking what I had where and it would be easy to forget. kept the paper on my desk until I settled in on a layout I liked and could finally get it memorized.

I've always used CH Gear.  Over 20 years ago in AW I used CH Software to program my controllers.  It worked well until I came to Aces High many years ago.  Since I've basically used the same configuration on my HOTAS for over 20 years I have my set up memorized.  Repetition, muscle memory so to speak.  I have tried using the old copy the settings trick in AH and it never worked for me.
So when I have came back I simply used the software in game to set up my Controllers.  Easy and doesn't take long.

My suggestion to you Sir would be the same.  Set up in the software provided and make a map that you will be instinctive with as well as comfortable.  After a few sorties with the settings you've created yourself it basically will last forever if you play enough.  I can't remember my oldest Son's name...but I sure as hell know my commands on my CH Hotas'.

Good ta cya back Newbie.

I have the same joystick set up. Let me know if you need a hand setting it up.

When I changed sticks from the CH fighterstick to the VKB MCG-Pro I tried to lay the buttons out as close to the old setup as possible so it'd be easier to re-learn it. Thing is there is a lot more buttons on the new stick. A good problem to have. Now try adding another couple of games and more profiles of stuff to learn! That's where the fun starts!

Just so you know... If you're flying daily, it'll take about two weeks until you remember which button to use and an additional 3 months until your brain has grown a set of new neural connections to automatize your reactions. After that it's just fine tuning your new super powers.
