Perdue3 requested a 611 Squadron Spitfire Mk IX skin for a future Dieppe scenario, I'll also be doing a Spitfire Mk V skin for the same event.
This Spitfire Mk IX was an early example converted from an existing Mk V in 1942, it featured some Churchill-esque bulldog fuselage art and was issued to 611 Squadron RAF. It was flown on several occasions by Count Franz Ferdinand Colloredo Mansfeld, an Austrian noble but a U. S. citizen who scored three kills flying for the RAF before being shot down and killed over France in January 1944. On March 14 1943 though this plane was being flown by Wing Commander James H. Slater as part of a Rodeo mission to the Luftwaffe airfield at Abbeville. However his was one of the three Spitfires lost on this occasion in a dogfight with the FW190s of JG26.
