Standard time
« on: July 04, 2020, 04:56:20 PM »
I know this probably doesn't affect US players as much... but it would be nice if there was a standard time...with a display of that in real time...

Standard time as at HiTech offices ... have it displayed on the E6B or somewhere... this way our scenarios etc could be set at HTC timezone Yes I understand this would be an actual us timezone...but we are going for simplicity....and all players could look at the clipboard and see a game standard time

Now sure there is the advent of world time on phones etc ... but for simplicity and for the lazy like me... a quick look at the clipboard and then at my time is lazier/easier ...you could even look at it as saving the environment....one less device being used  ;)

They usually put everything at Eastern time which is one zone over from the offices.

You’re clearly not familiar with how bad colonials are with math. We’d never know what time and possibly what day it is.

In events, Time is set by the CM and the rate is set to 1. This means the clock in the cockpit is accurate to the time of the event. However, this time must be set to day else it would be night time.

Here is an example:

FSO starts at 11 PM ET. I set the time in the arena to 1100 and at 1300, the event is over. On everyone's clocks in the cockpit they can see that the event begins at the top of  the 11th hour and ends and the top of the 1st hour. This way, every pilot in the event can easily recognize how much time is left.

A good idea about standard time, but we have the next best thing. In Scenarios, the CM sets the clock to 1030 or so and the event ends at 1330. We cannot set it to be in the afternoon or real time because we would have darkness in the arena.

I should have said "game oriented". Events and such. That is what I was believing the OP was referring to.

Thanks for the replies.

Now I understand that the scenarios are set at and in real time for the time zone you are in and that is great... however I have seen Mountain, CST, PST and EST times given in the past.. that is like me saying event starts at Sunday @ 10pm GMT +12 ... to you guys it would be like what's that time??? only to find oh that is actually Saturday morning/evening for you...
I think you guys on the east coast are like 16 hours behind me in NZ...or something like that
or someone from japan etc etc... a one game standard time...which as I thought it is HTC game so their time zone....
but all players can look at the E6B, clipboard or somewhere ... and all are on the same game time so to speak... just a standard unit for the game...

Yes shuffler that is exactly what I am referring to

And as I say...in the real world it isn't hard to look these things up but for ease...

It could even then be tided into a countdown timer added to the MOTD that we have now when we first login in stating 3 days 4 hours till

As for the daylight for scenarios..isn't that an arena settings adjustment or is the daylight time hours set fast to the time setting?
I would have presumed it was separate as night time doesn't last very long

We CMs can try to post a more standard time like GMT in the future.

That makes perfect sense with players in multiple places on the planet.  The military uses it for planning and operational purposes.

I'd suggest both Eastern and GMT would likely be good enough.  Us North Americans confuse easily. ;)
