When I look at these paintings I find myself pausing to try to imagine the actual moment in history - what the pilots and crew were going through and what they might've thinking or feeling.   Also makes me think about the machines' designers and builders, everybody who played a part in putting those machines there at that time.

I bought my first print when I was in High School.   I've framed them one by one over the years with UV-protective glass, acid-free matting, and hard backings instead of paper.    Moving them has always been tough because they can get broken easily, and I wonder what value anyone will find in them when I'm gone.   But they're wonderful to look at and I take a lot of satisfaction. 

My airplane collection sat in boxes for decades until one day I realized they were of no use hidden in a closet. 

I've not seen that one of the Jugs taking off before, either.   Very nice.

Oboe I do the same.  The Proof of the 78th FG rolling..........the Jug in the foreground.  Look at the right gear.......it's still in contact with the ground.  Think about what the Pilot is thinking at that time.

He's got a very heavy bird with two bombs and a 108 gal. drop tank attached!  He's playing hell to get that thing off the ground.  Glad it wasn't me.

Do a search for HE-111 1H+JA.   This one not only has the big ones in the center (though not quite as large as Hajo's model), it has the smaller white-only versions outboard.  It was the first Luftwaffe bomber downed over the British Isles according to one source.








There are others.  I read that in 1939 over Poland these were seen/used.  Lyric will no doubt find the info.

This model is from the Franklin Mint (as are all of mine)  guaranteed authentic and hand painted.  What the letter declaring authenticity means i have no idea.

Well, the upper wing cross is way too big. I've seen large crosses used in 1939 schemes, but they were not that big. Besides, if this plane did indeed have crosses that large, it should have been visible in the reference photo you provided.

The only other error I see is in the typeface of the fuselage code. The "1" and "G" are very much incorrect in their style.

On the plus side, at least the "E" is red and not yellow like in the second picture. There is a pretty clear system in the use of colored letters in fuselage codes. Only red or black letters will be used preceding a "K", "N", or "S". Yellow is only used for letters preceding an "L", "P", or "T"

That is why I presented 3 photos of the same aircraft.  I am not trying to insert myself here.  I am here only to encourage all of you for your efforts.  I will only stop in and take a look and encourage the work done here.  I do hope that is clear.

Yes, you can never trust a black and white photo for determining colors - especially yellow and red. That's how we wound up with people today still thinking that 'Assi' Hahn's 109F had a red cowling.

Thanks for the info on the He 111, I have never seen those wing markings before. Were they ever used on other LW aircraft?
