First full VR fight! (190A8 vs 190D9)
« on: July 28, 2020, 03:00:36 PM »
My first full-VR fight in Aces High III! I'm in a 190A8 with the 4x20mm package and 75% + DT, fighting Camaleon in a 190D9 (fuel loadout unknown).

This was a really great fight. I'm not going to win any awards for fighter tactics instruction, but I was really grinning from ear to ear after this fight. I actually let out an audible "PHEW!" after I landed.

Also, I know this is just 'video' without any of the jazzed up titles or beginning/end credits. As I get more practice using OBS film studio and other editing tools, I'll get more fancy. Additional details in the YouTube video comments section, enjoy!

This is the best VR video I've seen yet. So is this out of the film viewer w/recorded views into OBS?

Crystal clear!

THANK YOU!

Yes, and it plays even better in-person, BUTTER smooth. It takes a little trick to get the Film Viewer going and then to hit full screen and then use my OBS hot-key to get filming going. But once I get that trick down, and then get a decent film editor, I'm off to the races. I plan to do some tricks and edits to future films. This was just a quick post of the first one I did. I also grabbed some really neat screenshot frames from the film viewer, but don't have anywhere to post/host them yet.

I'm really trying to do what we talked about in my General Discussion post about the future of this game: put out some cool social media/YouTube stuff that may bring other players in. Feel free to share/post where you want to support this goal!

As you were extending away it seemed like the engine cut out? Is that the VR bug?

Sounded like he would be either full throttle or idle. In some shots you can see rpm.

Well, you're both somewhat correct. My fighting style is not...polished. I'll go review again, but I think at certain points I was trying to force an overshoot. Do you have a specific timestamp where you noticed I did that? I'll go and check it out.

Right about 0:35 to 0:38 seconds I think you pull the power back and it sounds like the engine is either off, or not making sound for some reason. I just checked the FMOD file for the A8 and that's not supposed to be how it sounds, if all you did was reduce power.

At :35, I think I just popped off WEP (accidentally?) then re-triggered it several seconds later. I get kinda twitchy, haha.

My whole problem with VR is that I hear it is fuzzy.

Shuff I have a RiftS and I don't find it fuzzy at all. The fuzziness was due to what's called the screen door effect. It'd look like looking thru one with earlier VR headsets. The RiftS and most current gen headsets improved on this to where it's hardly noticeable. What it lacks in straight up clarity (it's not gonna be as clear as a high res monitor) it makes up for in depth perception and immersion. You're in the cockpit.

Now if you want the best resolution, you can get a Pimax8k, their newest model but it's also a ton o bucks. You're also gonna need a cray mainframe to run it at those levels too!

I find the RiftS totally crushes AH at its max FR of 80 in all situations. That said there will undoubtedly be a next gen of headsets coming out prolly by the end of the year. I'd wait and see what's coming if I were looking to get into VR just now.
