Quitch
« on: July 31, 2020, 10:07:15 AM »
Thanks to Lyric1, Toad and Vraciu for the info for this skin, which is an update of a skin originally done by Fester in 2008. Toad requested I update this skin as it was originally flown by his father, 1st Lt John Nolan.

"Quitch" was a B-25D assigned to the 345th Bomb Group's 501st Bomb Squadron. Modified with a straffer nose it flew low level attack missions against Japanese airfields, bases and shipping in and around New Guinea in 1944. During its career it accounted for at least two Japanese ships and one enemy fighter and was flown by two crews, the first led by 1st Lt Milford Symens and the second by 1st Lt John Nolan. On August 15th 1944 it flew its last mission, a strike on the dock at Ternate. Over the target Quitch suffered a mid-air collision with another B-25 and its right wing was severely damaged. With one engine throttled back and by using full rudder and aileron Lt Nolan and the second pilot managed to coax the crippled aircraft to within sight of the friendly base at Kamiri. On final approach though the aircraft's remaining engine gave out and they had to ditch it in the sea. The crew was rescued by a passing DUKW but Quitch had flown its last flight.

Wow! Greebo she looks FANTASTIC! Thank you very much, I really appreciate the great work.

I did finally get a MUCH faster computer, so if I can dig out my old TM gear from the various moving boxes I intend to give AH another try. I will most certainly be flying Quitch and Potent Cock.

Superb job! Many thanks!

Good work as always Greebo! <S>
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I'll definitely need the support! I never did learn how to bomb anything from a bomber. Jabo, yah. Bomber, no. Pretty much just a fighter guy.

Did HT ever give us a parafrag load out for the B-25? Be great for taking down and airfield I think.

Quote
It was a relatively small bomb (24 pounds or 11 kilograms) scored to break into 1" (25mm) fragments on detonation and equipped with a small parachute. The parachute allowed the bomb to be dropped directly over the target in a low-level attack while allowing the attacking aircraft to get clear before detonation.

Great-looking skin, Greebo.

I'd be happy to fly cover for you as well, Toad - or join in a bomb run.

We attempted to replicate this image of a 345th BG 25 being escorted by two 80th 38s.

We had two 38G skins in 80th markings at that time and the 25 was in the Quitch markings.  Scary to say that this was in 2007!
