This was a pretty pitched fight in the Pacific marked by the extreme heroism of the Cactus airforce, which flew Wildcats (F4F), and P-400's (P-39 Airacobra export variant). The P-38F showed up at the tail end, but I know little of it except for a small excerpt. The japanese used A6M2's as the A6M3 was limited in range, and the Ki-43. The A6M5 didn't make the fight, and the Ki-61 debuted in New Guinea in the final month of Guadalcanal, (February 1943). The Ki-84 didn't debut operationally until 1944. The most mentioned fighter in the books I've read, (and the only one I remembered) is the Zero. Anyway, if you want to call it a Guadalcanal fight, you should at least include the F4F and the P-39. But of course I am not organizing or running this event, likely won't remember it in time to fly it, and remain a peanut gallery participant. As such my input should be regarded lightly only.
