Unable to start/load game immediately after dl & install

Experienced this problem today. My fix was Device Manager > Disable all sound devices apart from my USB headset. Not sure which one(s) (of the three) are problematic, perhaps the Nvidia as suggested above.

Ok this really is a problem.

Had a number of people (inc me) over the last couple months find that AH 3 was crashing (often after hearing a buzzing noise).  Throwing away expensive video card and after replacing and then only installing the bare video driver brought it magically to life and stability again.

Currently working on putting a new drive with completely fresh install of everything inc os. 
AH the only program that will not work.
Tried a few things: Tried AH2 and it works.  Tried earlier version of AH3 and it works.
Install version from Net or let older version update in game and when the game tries to start - instadeath.

Kill on-video card sound and boots normally.

Same prob on Nvidia and AMD cards.

I have a workaround. 

New guy walks in, downloads game, tries to run it .................and never comes back.

I got a freshly installed version of windows 10 running (2 months ago and have been playing many games and programs like blender) and i wanted to install the game so i can attend the memorial flight tonight. And well i think i ran into the same problem as described earlier. I filmed what happens.

Steps i took:
- Run as administrator
- Reboot
- Fresh AH install
- al of the above 10 times
- Disabled the Nvidea audio drivers
- Checked if drivers are up to date

i got the: AMD AM4 ATX motherboard with LED lighting, DDR4 3200MHz , 32Gb/s M.2, HDMI, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.1

Had to update my bios because it would not run the new cpu.

I am running the firmware version: 5606 x64 build date: 13-07-2021 Which should be the latest.

That bigger square behind the install window and after the crash puzzles me. What might that be?

Oh that's steam, it didn't load properly after the last restart of windows.

Hmmm... Have you already tried this: Keep the Shift button pushed while clicking Shutdown to shut down Windows? That makes Windows start from scratch at next startup, no saved settings. Any program/app/driver that's not loading properly can cause issues.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just tried and i am getting the same results.

I have also tried booting the dx9 version and both versions as an administrator.

I am for a total loss here.

Good morning!

Just triple checking: Have you downloaded and installed the motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's site or let Windows do it? Windows seems to co-operate with Intel pretty well, at least when talking about a bit older hardware, but AMD has always been a bit mysterious. It's similar with printers, some brands seem to install automatically and some not. You may be missing a chipset driver or something like that, Windows having installed a generic driver instead so you can't see at one glimpse that there's something missing.

Another thing to check is the Windows Event Wiever https://www.howtogeek.com/123646/htg-explains-what-the-windows-event-viewer-is-and-how-you-can-use-it/. Under Applications find the latest AH crash. It may give a hint about the culprit. I found an example where the "faulty application" had a name that could be connected to a game and the "faulty module" was ntdll.dll. And the path to the faulty app was "C:\Program Files\...\Uncheater\...game name..."

The event viewer is a good idea indeed. I should look into that next time. Dumb i didnt think of that.

But i wont be playing now, i did miss the memorial flight, that was the reason to come back for a little bit. I will come back to AH at some point, i will look into it than further.
