Non-Paying Account Mission Upload
« on: October 04, 2020, 11:23:36 AM »

I've closed my account because I've come to realize I just prefer fiddling around in offline mode nowadays when I have a few minutes here or there to play around.

I can still make myself offline missions and play them which is appreciated.  I cannot upload them to the server for others to enjoy, or fix bugs in ones previously uploaded missions.

I can certainly live with that.  I can play them myself and that's why I make them.  However, I'm not sure I see the advantage for HTC to decline free content (e.g. missions and terrains).

If someone is willing to donate free labor and give you additional content to expand your ecosystem, I think you should let them, even if they don't have a pay account.  It's like turning down free money.  ;)  Given the limited resources of HTC at the moment, I don't see the advantage in turning down free work that could benefit all your customers.

I've certainly appreciated your work, Trips. I don't see it detrimental to the game or community if you're allowed to continue to contribute.

Thanks, but I'm not just talking about me.  Personally for me, it doesn't matter either way. It's not like I get paid. ;)

But if I make something cool for myself, it's no additional effort to just hit the upload button.  Some one else might have fun with it too.  If someone else can't get access to that, it's no loss to me, it just seemed like a odd design choice to not let people give HTC free stuff.  Some people just like building stuff the way some people like building model airplanes.  Why shouldn't HTC benefit from that impulse?

I could also just post the binaries to the Staged Mission forum I guess if I cared enough to share something. But I probably wouldn't go through that much trouble rather than just hitting upload.

I'd also suggest he enable AI Staged Missions for War Online: Pacific.  Staged Missions might be a more compelling experience for people trying that out, than a FFA dueling pit.  Maybe a WWII Pacific version of an AI arena (like WW1WF)  with an on-going 24/7/365 US v Japan island war with shipping attack, bombing missions, fighter patrols.  So much wasted potential.

Oh, it would need the ability to upload terrains as well as missions to be useful.  I would never put serious work into missions for a terrain I didn't have the source for.  ( I learned that from Coogn's screw-ups. ;))

At least my missions weren't repetivive like yours.  Your crap is all the same.  Just head-on AI's.  (Oh let's just change planes and call it a whole new mission).  LMAO!!

Because you created yours in AHIII.  Mine were made back in AHII and were broken when AHIII came out.
I would assume you'd have known that.

Sounds like excuses.

AHIII has been out a while.  What have you done lately?

As I have told you before, I won't make anymore missions if they're not going to work after AH updates.

So, they are just defunct examples you use to criticize Trip's work (for some reason). Are you both half brothers and fighting over the throne of the Duchy of Grand Fenwick?

I guess excuses are easier to make than missions.  :D

Oh he's just bitter because he screwed up.

The cataclysmic breaking changes he is referring to was literally some minor typing to fix in the mission file and rebuild, plus a couple of minor file naming convention changes that would have been trivial to fix. I fixed a couple of his files for him to show him how to get them building again.

His real problem is he put a lot of work in to building missions for terrains he didn't own the source for.  Those either got laid out differently of not converted at all in the AHIII switch.  Most of his missions would have worked again but needed effort to modify to fit the new terrain.  I guess a little work scared him.

Instead, he blames Hitech and everyone else on the planet for his poor design choice and lack of work ethic to fix his mistake.

Oh well.  Sucks to be him.  :D

You know what?  No one forces you to be a content provider.  If you want to go that route, you need to be a grown up and roll with changes.

Did Greebo, Devil505 and all the other skin artists throw themselves on the floor and flail their arms and legs and cry that Hitech was trying to stab them in the back when the skin formats changed?

Nnnnnnnnope.  They pulled up their big boy pants and converted their skins.

His files I tried for him weren't hard to convert and build with a little bit of effort.  But he would have reworked them for a different terrain/field layout.

You choose to rely on someone else's terrain, that is a big variable that you can't control.  There is no law against it, but you man-up and either accept there might be rework as changes occur or you have to be willing to walk away from those missions and go make new one.  Who ever reworked, or chose not to convert, the terrains he relied on aren't responsible for keeping them perfectly compatible with his missions.  That's not Hitech's fault.  Coogn chose that design risk.

Anyway, He tried to sht on Hitech over that in a thread and I publicly called BS on him.  I guess the humiliation stung.

Ever since, he's been following me around like an ackle-humper.   :D

Put him on ignore; I have now.  I highly recommend it.  ;)

They did not.  Nor did they make a big deal of announcing their retirement from AH.  In fact, I don’t remember them criticizing HTC because he didn’t design his game the way they preferred.  They put up with the changes like the gentlemen they are, and continued to help out other players.

I thought - and think - that that sort of behavior is very admirable.
