Mirror in new Lighting
« on: October 23, 2020, 06:30:39 PM »
New 38 looks great! However I'm wondering if the mirror is functional and if it will be optional?

I disable the cockpit mirror in Il-2 and DCS because I do not think it helps with SA and it blocks some of the forward up view.

Just my thoughts. I hope it will be an option in AHIII.

Yeah, an option would be nice.  Didn't know that was a thing.

 To clarify a bit.

In Il-2 Sturmovik you have an option to mount the mirror in the Pony and the Spit where it mounts on top of the canopy or you can leave it off. In the P38 the mirror is mounted in the canopy and cannot be disabled.

In DCS mirrors cannot be removed but can be disabled (not showing reflections) so as to improve frame rates.

I would imagine it would work very similar to the enviornment map settings.  That setting is simply reflections as well.

In non-VR, the mirror seems to be reflecting from a viewpoint outside the airplane.  At times, depending on the aircraft attitude, it reflects the interior of the cockpit including the instrument panel.

with a TrackIr I agree the mirror was reflective but a view that was not what would be expected, or needed.

Mirror in my PJ was fine. Sit back and you see the plate above your head with bolts in it. Lean forward just a little and you see behind you. I believe it is this way to keep the sun from blinding you if it is behind you.

In the pink Spitfire, the mirror it's only used to apply your lipstick.

Just DLd the new patch. New 38 cockpits looks great, like the layout. I have the hps issue too but that's simple enough to fix. Initially I had a blank mirror in the 38L. I couldn't find a direct setting for it so I started messing around with graphics settings. For example, IL2 has a setting specifically for the mirrors with it's own quality slider. I've had environmental set to off, that was it. As soon as I put it to any setting I got the mirror to display. It displays but it's not really "working" as it seems it's either showing the view forward towards the cockpit canopy latches and instrument panel or if looking back is a mirror of a mirror where multiple rear images are overlaid on each other. This changes with raising or lowering of the environmental slider. Using VR.
