I agree.  I get the same thing out of archery I get out of pool, and I think if I got into golf it would be similar.  I haven't done archery in a long time, but I used to shoot an unsighted recurve.  When I was doing it 3-5 times a week, it was more like throwing a ball than trying to align sights.  A truly excellent feeling.

I sold all my archery equipment years a go. Enjoyed it. I played a lot of golf too. Not much lately. I play pool, or did till they shut down the halls and bars. Some of the bars are back open.

I play a little bit of pool too. Im not very good at it. I do have a 6' and a 7' pool table, both one piece slate, so there isnt much waiting if you guys want to come over

Up until Thanksgiving I shot a whole lot. Maybe 200 to 250 arrows a week. One of the good folks that helped me along the way was state champion this year in outdoor archery. I went to see him shoot. It was so phreaking cool.

That video was at 20 yards. I really prefer shooting at 35 yards are more. There's that split second anticipation of will I hit it.

Dad raised me as a hunter and I started as a bow hunter. I think I was about 6yo when he bought me my first kiddy bow and I used to practice with him in the basement. My uncle was a world class archer and personal friend of Fred Bear.

At 9yo I was hunting with a bow. A few years later I took my first deer, a doe. Ive thought about getting back to it but my hunting spots have dried up, I used to have more spots then time to hunt in.

But you dont have to hunt to love the great sport of archery.

I used to love archery. These days it would be F-Class Competition shooting, except I don't have any hand strength at the moment. That, and it's impossible to find reloading components at the moment.

One year at "camp awana", I was in charge of the archery shack.

We took all the damaged arrows and fired them off to have one really curved one shoot out of sight and land right beside us.

It had done a partial loop.

That camp had "archery golf" and I asked "what if one group catches up to the one in front of them?"

Archery golf officially ended that day.

I play a lot of pool as well, well, used to obviously since C19 shut the world down.  My X is a pro 9 ball player, her twin sister has also been on the pro 9 ball tour for years.  Their team also wins Vegas' VNEA or APA 8 ball tournaments every other year.

I play mainly 8 ball in local bar leagues, it is good fun, lots of great players to learn from, lots of so-so players that you can beat.   When the league shut down I had 1/2 dozen EROs, 4 1st attempts, and 2 10-0s.  Some guys end the league year with 20 +EROs, which shows the talent in Western Canada re VNEA/APA 8 ball league.

RE archery, I've primarily focused on firearms, but I enjoy shooting anything, and have a lot of friends into archery that have bugged me to go.  Joe Rogan comes up here to Alberta to bear hunt with guys I've trained in handgun shooting who run a hunting guide/lodge business.  They are huge into all kinds of archery shooting.  That's what I'd like to do, get a decent Hoyt target bow, a good English longbow in a reasonable draw weight, a good recurve, and a good hunting compound.  There is a great indoor 3d archery range 2 miles from our current place that I should be taking advantage of, and a bunch of English/historical archers in this area as well.  Going to start this spring, get a decent target bow first, and then go from there.  Some good archery instructors in my area too.  Since here in Canada firearms disarmament has begun, getting into archery is probably a good idea at the moment.

Any advice on a really good 1st target bow for indoor 3d and general archery "plinking"?  Sight/trigger-release/arrows/etc?

Everything here has gone to BCA. I played a lot of 9 back in the day when I was a bit more serious and the money was right. I stopped and played golf for years. When I went back to pool I just played what I called my third game, one handed. Most of the folks I play will be playing 2 handed as usual. I play one handed and never touch the table with hand or stick. More fun for me.

BCA/Cue sports live is very popular and active in Calgary as well.  My old team has lots of Youtube vids up from Cue sports tournaments.

You shoot any good cues Shuffler?  I've been using Predator cues since I got my first one in 1996 when I bought one for my X right before we split, and I kept it. Great cues, I got a new one a few years back, haven't had the chance to use it much.  Hopefully C19 restrictions end - I made it through C19 like a snap, especially considering underlying health conditions, but my pops is still in the ICU since Feb 11th when he went down in his home and was unresponsive from his C19 infection  (it had killed his kidney functions, they are back now, still fighting other issues though, he had surgery again yesterday morning and is hanging in there.)

Be great once this is all over, new hobbies to get into (Archery), and some old ones to pick up again (pool).  I can still go shooting, our 1100m rifle range is private, and on private property, and it hasn't been ordered closed here (yet).
