Logitech 3D extreme pro
« on: January 17, 2021, 12:41:49 PM »
Is the Logitech 3D extreme pro discontinued?

Know where I can get one?

My searches on google don’t show definitively if it is. Some say no just back ordered others say it is...

Logitech only says on their website it’s sold out.

The jump in cost to the Thrustmaster or others is a lot, maybe worth it though. Definitely will take some time to get used to and re map buttons and my mind...

They're casting their bait over there, see?

RotBaron, PM me.  I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, still in the box, in my closet.

Bought one about 12 years ago and found it to have a rather limited and stiff throw range. Didn't much care for it.YMMV

It's my favorite joystick.  Been using it for years.  Best bang for the buck, IMO.  I hope they don't discontinue it.  It would be very hard to replace.

Logitech extreme 3d is what I first started flying with. It lasted me on average 1-3 months before the z axis went bad. At the time they were $30-40 a pop.

Thrustmaster 1600 was my next upgrade. It lasted me about 6-12 months on average. I think they were $60-70 pre covid.

I upgraded to. VKB GF3. So far so good approaching a year. But you are looking at $400.

I haven't tried the newest VKB gladiator but I think at about $150 its probably the best value for the average sim enthusiast.

I still use a logitech extreme 3d pro, they do go bad after a few months, at least the three that i had, in the Y axis. Maybe because I pull, pull too hard on elevators lol. Its my favorite stick too. I tried a thrustmaster and some other older joystick (a friend's, dont remember the brand) and nothing feels "right" like a logitech.

One weird idea that I've been milling around is to buy like 5-10 logitech extreme 3d pros. That way if they ever DO stop making them, I have back ups. Or if I stop flight simming, I can sell them away for cheap or gift them to other people that need one.

Supplies and pricing of various computer items is insane these days.

Some things go out of stock, then come back in stock, then out, etc. -- and prices and delivery times fluctuate by 100% every several days.

Logitech 3D Pro costs $40 when it is in stock at cdw.com and amazon.com.  But it is currently on low stock at amazon, so amazon is charging $65 if you want it soon-ish.  Maybe you can get it for $40-ish if you are willing to wait a week.  It is out of stock at cdw.com, but you can order one for $40, and they'll ship it when they get some.  Newegg (which has it for about $75) sucks on figuring out if they really have it or not and if so how long it will take to get it.  No quick check as far as I know -- have to add it to cart and get to shipping part of that to see how long it takes to get it.

These prices and delivery times are subject to change up and down significantly every day.

What a mess these days.

I do think the Logitech 3D is a good stick for the money when it costs $40.

I significantly prefer CH Products flight stick (better feel, more precise, not as stiff), but it costs more than 2x the money of the 3D and has no twisty to it, so you need to buy pedals as well.  CH is what I use for me (as I'm a long-term AH enthusiast  :aok).  But if I'm buying a stick for a pal or my kids, it's Logitech 3D.

I have been playing flight sims forever mostly in chase view, virtual tourist mode in Aerofly FS2. A long time ago I bought one of those fancy systems with pedals, dual throttles, force feedback programable stick etc etc. After less than 6 months it was in the garage. I spent hours and hours programming that thing and found that when I switched from IL2 back to FSX all my controls were corrupted. The idea of this game and most others I think is to enjoy them rather than to spend endless hours getting frustrated with them. So I am very happy with my Logitech 3D pro and find it plays in both this game and my Aerofly FS2 with no problems. It also did not cost me a fortune (although I bought my upmarket system on a sale, it was still $300).

I don't use any software with my CH Products stick and pedals.  I just plug them in and use AH.

Same for Logitech 3D -- just use the stick and AH, nothing in between.

Thank you all for your input.

EddieK is doing me a huge favor and sending me his

Many places right now say they have it, but when you go to checkout you’ll find shipping says weeks away & it has said that since the summer. It’s sold out, if you can get your hands on them and it’s your preference get as many as you think you’ll need.

When they start spiking you can clean the contacts in the pots and get more life out of them. There are little small openings around the edge of the metal housing that you can get fluid into then work them around real good for a minute.  If you're handy you could probably even replace them.
To each their pwn.

After playing BoS (Battle of Stalingrad) I have revised my opinion of my joystick and ordered a new Thrustmaster Airbus edition one. My Logitech Extreme 3D was all over the place in BoS showing 5 mph or more before I applied any throttle.
