filter your kills from system kill spam option
« on: February 06, 2021, 07:27:34 AM »
Please add a way to filter out all the kill spam other then your kills or a way to change the text color or something on your kills to filter it out of the rest of the spam.
It's dang near impossible while flying in a hostile area during prime time with all the kill spam to filter through it and find the players name that you killed and would like to salute.

Learn to setup you radios properly.  Key word radios, meaning two.

This is how the game operated with 800 people online.  In my opinion it makes the game appear more active.  Id be glad to help you configure your settings if you see me online.

I will partially agree with your wish my by saying it would be nice for HT to make subcategories of system messages.  Right now if you disable them, you lose base take info, objects destroyed info, and the kill buffer.  While i prefer to have all the info, and my radios are setup properly, i can see how it might be hard for some people to keep up.

How about a new dot command:  .sk to salute the last player who killed you.  You wouldn't have to find it in the text buffer and wouldn't have to spell the player's gameid (is it an "o" or "O", "l" or "1", etc.).

Edited for unintended consequences.   :D

How would I "set up my radios" I have two windows. One with all the system spam and one with everything else...

Well it sounds like you have them configured the ideal way.  You can use the ~ key to expand those windows to look back in the history.  I personally have mine expand the full size of the screen.  Ive never had an issue not being able to expand the windows and find the information I need in the radio buffers.

Like you mentioned though, being able to turn off kill messages without losing the other info would be ideal.  I just wanted to make sure you were properly setup to make it workable for the time being.

Thanks.  I'm open to any ideas that would improve the situation.

It's just that during prime time the spam is rolling along and if you're in an extended engagement and flying in VR it takes some doing for me to find the info I'm looking for as I can only use one window at a time in vr without it being too much so I have to look down and switch to the kill spam tab as I keep the messaging one up, and then try to scroll through it to find what I'm looking for while making sure some red guy doesn't sneak up on me lol

Ahh i dont use VR myself.  I can see that situation being really annoying.

I'm really surprised more people don't find this annoying.

If you can turn it on and off for the game, why not give the individual person the same ability? Seems like it wouldn't be hard to code and would cut down on the spam.

I suspect there are many like me that filter it to a window that they never look at until after a good fight with multiple people and they then have to try to read through 100 lines of kill spam to try to find the 3 names of the 3 people they want to salute.

I find it VERY annoying and don't understand how I can be the only one.

hazmatt it bothers you because you let it bother you. I find it the spam actually improved my SA. it also helps me find out who's flying against me based on seeing somebody die.

there's lots of good info you can gather from what you call spam.

Aye. Like anything else. Some like it some don't. I never said that I wanted to take it away from you.
If you like it I think you should be able to use it but why should I be forced to use it?

I just don't see why I don't have the option to turn it off because as you said it is spam to me.

This is how it used to be. Not sure what it would take to make it switchable for individuals.

Doesn't annoy me at all, I guess I just don't sweat the small, inconsequential stuff and just play and enjoy myself.
