In reading about the big duel, I noticed that hristo has to change his name. I love the flaat rate. But you should be able to take a brake, now and then, without loseing your name.

We all burn out from time to tiem,, and need a break. This feels like low key form of blackmail.

Welllllll..... I believe, don't quote me on this, but I believe so long as you remember your old username and password, you can go into the account management system and add in credit card information and you get your old name back.
Then again, this may be assumption.

What I don't get is why guys post here under one name and fly under another one or two in the game.

What are they afraid of? Is their ego that large?

Something fishy there.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

 Thats the whole point toad.

My name was TT. I was trying to fix something. So I wanted to try to reload everything fresh. I lost the name(my fault I didnt read the popup.) I went so far as to call HTC to get it back. No luck.

Sooner or later, most of the people are gonna log off. (no point in paying 30bucks, or more if your not in the US, when you cant play for 2 months. Get computer fixed, have to work, ect.)

There are any number of reasons why you might want  to take a break.

I predict a few people are going to go off and play WW2ol for awile. Decide its not for them. And have different names when they come back.

Actually Toad, my excuse is that I signed onto this board before I subscribed to AH. And I didn't want such a long, silly name as Aerotech as my game ID.
I tried to change my handle on this board and I get the message that there is already a username associated with my email addy. Simple really.

Upon occasion, HTC may do a purge of usernames that have not been active for XX days (I assume this would be for non-account holders).  When that happens, you should be able to get your old id back.

Ive been away from the game for some time now. I also wanted my old handle back so  i got in touch with HTC and they gave me my old login and password so I could add the payment info. Give them a little more credit...dont think theyd blackmail you over a handle

One of two things.
a) Emailed them
b) called them

They do give you a phone number to call their offices if you go into secure admin, click on the "resend password" and type in some invalid account name. THey give you 817-251?-1540 I'm not sure about the 251, but the rest is correct.

What I really want to know is, what do you think "got in touch" could possibly mean? Sent them 40 kegs of Miller Lite and 700 pizzas, then when they were good and drunk and full from the beer and pizza, he asked really nicely for his old account so he could *gasp* PAY them for the account? This isn't some crazy scheme to steal our money easymo, you gotta realise the reason for them locking handles: so someone who's a real salamander doesn't change his handle every time he logs in just to offend people.

Say it with me "This is not a conspiracy to steal our money and our handles, this is not a conspiracy to steal our money and our handles..." :-)

As I noted above. I did call them. I talked to a vary nice lady who said she would check. She did. And the answer was no.

I very seldom say anything online. So I doubt I offended anyone. I felt that the rule was a marketing tool, to "encourage" people to keep there account active. I have a little problem with authority. So this hit me the wrong way. So I have made it a point to open and close accounts over and over.

If I could get my first account back. I would be content to live with it.

...or someone else will take it while the previous owner out and it will make it bit harder to know who is where.

Do not like that purge idea.

May be just some code, each of pilots get when signing. If he wants his name back he just need to enter this code.

What gets lost here is why should HTC reserve a username for someone that stops playing or paying for the game? The H2H option is the way to hold on to your handle, but still, I think it is a little much to behave as though a handle is an entitlement.

Not that I think anyone would want it, but if I left, "Kieren" should be available to whomever wanted it.

In Easymo's case I can see where he would want to switch back to an old nick (he didn't change because he wanted to). I don't know what is involved in changing handles around, but I do know that WB has similar trouble (I did go through trouble with it there). I don't think it is a conspiracy of any sort.
