Game not launching after download

I've uninstalled a few times and tried downloads of the installer.  The website says it will download 1.63gb of data, but after running the 296mb installer it just extracts a bunch of files and asks if I want to start the game.  It brings up the Aces High splash screen and then disappears at the point it would normally bring up the menu.  My Aces High folder is only 689mb, on my laptop the same folder is 3.14gb...granted no skins download on the desktop yet.

Did you install any motherboard drivers? The automagically added ones may not unleash the full power of your system.

Hitech said I should install my sound drivers.  I went ahead and downloaded and installed all the fresh drivers for the motherboard.  About to update the BIOS but I doubt that will resolve it.
Seems like Pudgies issue where its not downloading the game, but his was a router issue.  I have free wifi on base and no router

edit: BIOS update complete, no go.

Starting the steam download, which is over 2GB.  Hopefully I don't need to cancel my normal account and create a steam one.

Found the fix, dont try to open the game with windows set to 4k resolution.  I moved it to 1080p and now the game is downloading from launch.......

bah, I guess that was too good to be true, realized I was downloading the game on VPN I decided to shut off the VPN and restart...but now running into the same issues of the download not popping up and the game closing.  Went back on the VPN and no go

Edit.....just unplugged my joystick and it fired up the download...to afraid to mess with it any further to verify if that was it.

I got yet another new computer, the game wouldn't launch again.  Tried about 20 times before unplugging my joystick, then the download started...
