<S> for your service

Ever read the history of Vietnam?

How we promised them freedom from the French if they  fought the Japanese for us in WW2?

And how after the war we forgot that promise and reinstated the French government over them?

And how once the French ppl got tired of their  sons dying and being crippled, they pulled out and we sent our sons to that useless poltical war...

War is such big business and those who make billions never have skin in the game sadly.

Welcome home Nam Vets.   :salute
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

I served the last couple of years of the war, USAF 1971-1976. I was one of the lucky ones however, never had to go "in country". Lost a few close friends to the war, had 3 cousins that served "in country", 2 in the Army and 1 in the USAF. All 3 came home, with no permanent damage.

To those that served "in country",  :salute my Brothers and Sisters and may God Bless you and comfort you. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Just started reading a book called " Chickenhawk " by Robert Mason. He was a huey pilot in Vietnam. Really good so far.

It's a classic.  Inspired one of my sons to learn to fly helicopters.

As one of the teenaged (at the time) Air Mobile grunts. I logged many mission from insertion, extraction and alas a final dust off in the venerable Huey. Grew to love that bird and developed a real respect for the flight crews and pilots. Congrats to your Son, learning a very worthwhile career flying a historic airframe. Any Vietnam vet can tell you there was no sound or feeling standing on an LZ that a flight of these birds were landing and hearing the blades pitch change in the landing flare and feeling every rotation of the blades vibration in your guts. It's a sound and feel impossible to forget.
