Shooting through VH that’s up
« on: May 28, 2021, 03:37:11 PM »
Wondering why on a couple maps (or maybe even just the base?) you can shoot through a VH that’s up in a tank. On most of the other maps the VH has to be destroyed to shoot through it...

They're casting their bait over there, see?

it is very likely they were shooting at you with HE. I have been killed a few times when I was inside a bomber hangar and a Tiger 2 shot the walls with HE rounds.
If you are not real familiar with HE rounds experiment some with them. If you bounce a HE round on the ground near a M-3 it is lethal if it hits close enough. M-8's will get flat tires or
explode when a HE round hits the ground really close. You can also bounce HE rounds on the runway when a plane is taking off and  KABOOOOOM  LOL.

I am not aware of any of these situations, if they exist it needs to be fixed. RotBaron, do  you remember the maps/bases?

One of the maps is the one with TT in the center of the ocean with Air bases from all 3 countries having a spawn into. At the moment I don’t recall the map’s name.

I have film of it though. I’m trying to work with the AHfilm to parse the film down to just the 3 minutes of where it’s relevant to this thread, the whole film is 45min long.

Mano: the players that were doing this were killing any tank this way, would HE at that close of distance (about 200yds)  kill every tank in the game?

HE rounds to the rear will kill Panzer H and Panzer F pretty easily. A Tiger 1, Tiger 2, and T-34/85 will come out of the hangar unscathed.

It is also possible one or both were inside the hangar....at the very back and you did not see them. Some players are sneaky like that. I of course would never
hide in the back of the spawn vh.   :D :D :D

Thank you for your replies.

The players doing this were not in or to the side of the hangar.

On those bases there’s sheep pens and just two auto guns.

They park next to the map room and fire through the backside of the VH.

There is a small opening between the wall and the VH - but when I tried to fire through that opening all different forms of shells exploded. However, when I fired just to the side of the opening (through the VH) the shells went through it and exploded on the wall ~50yds past where GVs spawn.

If a GV was there it would have hit it in the rear.

I have film of it. Don’t recall map name atm.

It’s the map with TT alone in the center of the ocean where the bases only have 2 autoguns.

You can fire through that slot but you can't use the gunsight to do it because of a parallax error: i.e. the gun barrel is offset from the gunsight. Switch to commander mode and use the left right arrows to move the view to be lined up with the barrel. Then you can fire through the slot by sighting down the barrel.

Of course I personally believe you shouldn't be able to fire from the commander's position, but that is immaterial.

Hmm ok. Thank for the reply. How long has this been known and used on those bases?

Other than the players doing it, nobody on country or 200 chimed in about this being known about...

I think the map you are reffering to is the Crater map, it  has the vbase's you are describing. 715 I believe answered your question though, in all of the tanks the gunner and the barrel are offset from each other. I have killed troops and gv's from inside the alcove shooting out at the Map room through that slot. :x

Jimmy/Kenaii

It’s not Greebo’s Crater map. Oceania sounds right but I’m not certain.

I guess we’ll have to wait until it’s up again, should be really soon...iirc it was up almost all last weekend.

 :salute

It’s the only set of TT bases I know of that only have 2 autoguns on each base, no manned guns and the VH can not be destroyed.

i have never had my tank killed by another tank while in the vh unless the tank came in front door or vh was down or another tank was in the 2nd bay.
or a bomb dropped on it

He is referring to the BowlMa map.

The OP referenced shooting through the VH. The shooter graciously explained that he was not, and explained that he was shooting through the gap between the VH and the wall. The OP then said that the gap between the VH and the wall was too small to shoot an 85mm shell through so it had to be coming through the VH.

I am curious what you think the dimension of that gap is, and why an 85mm shell cannot fit through it? And where would one find that information?

715 and Others on different nights have confirmed it is possible to shoot through that gap (as the game is now). As far back as I can remember it has been "One" option since the map was introduced. Many of us have found better ways to attack the VH.

There are a multitude of things in the GV game that players are not aware of. Just because you are not aware of it doesn't make it an exploit, secret or a bug. Most of these things are learned from getting frustrated, being the victim of it or in more rare instances taking a shot and getting a kill. There is no manual that I am aware of that explains these things.

BTW some of the more vulnerable GVs like the Jeep, M3, M16, M18 can be killed through the VH wall with HE rounds without the VH being down. You cannot shoot an AP or HVAP round through the wall. Is that a bug? Panzers are also susceptible to direct hits from HE rounds.

The GV side of the game is pretty straight forward.

TyFoo:

I’m curious curious about you saying the “shooter” was being gracious (graciously). The conversation was far from that from all the definitions I’m aware of.

I’d say a lot more like sarcastic, belligerent & ridiculing...you were there as you stated and joined in too. I’d post that here of the 200 ch chat, but it would probably be a forum rules violation...
