Little Lulu
« on: August 15, 2021, 03:30:11 AM »
This skin was a request from Ezglider, whose father was one of its original crew but who was not on board when it was shot down. Thank you to Vraciu and Lyric1 for finding some of the info used for the skin.

"Little Lulu" was a B-24H of the 776th Bomb Squadron, itself part of the 464th Bomb Group. This group served in the MTO and attacked targets in Southern Europe from bases in Italy. The aircraft got its name and nose art from a cartoon strip of a lollipop loving little girl that featured each week in the Saturday Evening Post. Rows of lollipops were therefore used as mission markers and 52 of these had been accumulated by August 24th 1944 when the 464th BG was tasked with bombing an oil refinery in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Shortly after successfully hitting the target "Little Lulu" was hit twice by enemy fighters. The first attack by Uffz. Willi Reschke of I./JG 302 set the inboard port engine on fire before return fire forced him to break off. The second from Fw. Hubert Engst of II.(Sturm)/JG 300 did fatal damage to the aircraft causing it enter a flat spin and break up in mid air. Only one of the ten crew, radio operator Sgt John F. D’Amore, managed to bail out and survived to be taken prisoner.

Amazing work! What a fantastic looking B-24!

Please make this the default skin in the following Terrains -

Italy
Greece
Danube
DanubeW

Need to look for a B-17G for the same terrains...
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Greebo, this is fantastic - an awesome reproduction. This is such a great tribute to my Dad who survived WWII in "Little Lulu" with 52 combat missions in 105 days from May 7, 1944 to Aug 20, 1944.  It is an even greater tribute to the crew which went down with her on Aug 24, 1944.  Between the 109's, 190's and flak, there was a lot of carnage and horror on every flight. My dad was wounded and earned a Purple Heart on his 41st mission when a piece of flak hit him in the helmet and gave him a concussion which grounded him for 7 days.  It puts a lump in my throat to think of the bravery these airmen had to muster for every flight. It is an honor to be able to fly his warbird.

Thank you so much,

Greebo, when do you expect the "Little Lulu" skin will be approved by HTC and available for download?

I will go through the current batch of new skins for approval at the end of the month. Then its just a question of when Hitech gets time to process them into the MA. He did it a few hours after I finished the approvals last time but for previous times its been days or even weeks after.
