Romanian Bf 109G-2
« on: August 19, 2021, 08:49:42 PM »
This is an adoption of Treize's original skin. It does not depict the exact plane as I could not find any reference to the scheme he made, so I found the most similar one to it.

Special thanks to Lyric for his assistance in acquiring reference material on the Romanian Air Force

This 109G-2 (In reality a G-4) was operated by Escadrila 58, Grupul 7 Vanatoare of the Royal Romanian Air Force and flown by squadron commander Capt. Av. Dan Scurtu. Escadrila 58 began operation of 109G-4's in April 1943 after transitioning from 109E's. They fought the Soviet air force over southern Ukraine during the fighting retreats of the Axis after their defeats at Stalingrad and Kursk. This 109 wears markings and camouflage typical of the first batch of 109G's used by Romania, dark green camouflage covers the upper fuselage and wings with light blue gray on the undersides. It is assumed that these were Romanian equivalents of German RLM 71 or 74 over RLM 76. In keeping with the original skin, I elected to use RLM 71 olive green as 74 is too gray. Markings are the "St. Michael's Cross" insignia of Royal Romania and yellow tail band, lower wing tips and lower cowling consistent with Axis aircraft operating over the Soviet Union. The rudder is painted with the colors of the Romanian flag.

Very nice! Great work!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

The reference photo showed a solid color that was duller than the usual RLM 71, so I dialed in some RAF Dark Green (Which had been used on some Romanian built aircraft of other types) So the color is plausible, in my mind.

If I remember correctly I did Constantine Cantacuzino's "White 4".

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Yes, you did. But when I searched for his aircraft, I could only find reference for his later aircraft.

Also, the images you linked don't work.

Yeah, I noticed. Just google Constantine Cantacuzino and several images pop up. One of him sitting in the aircraft with part of the 4 visible, another if him leaning on the tail,  and some good profiles. I did the same aircraft for War Thunder and was able to find plenty to work from.

Ok. I missed the thread on https://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=1764

I'll update the skin back to "White 4" I like the kill markings on the tail better anyway.

When I get home I'll try and post up some images I have. And the new skin I made.

If you're thinking of doing any others let me know, I have a ton of reference material on hand.
