Fortress Europe: Battle of Britain 2021
« on: August 23, 2021, 07:55:24 AM »
We're having a special Battle of Britain event this Friday night.

It will use the same sides as Augusts FSO. Allies will remain Allied, Axis will remain Axis.

SlipKnt will be Allied CIC and I will be Axis CIC.

Hope everyone can join us for this special Battle of Britain event!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Just throwing it out there:

Can stand up TopHat if you like.

I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

Thanks Corky.  Nef, believe it or not, wasn't aware of it.  I just tried to bring him up to speed.

Perhaps you could just briefly describe your experience for those "who weren't there".

Nef,  What Dantoo did as "TopHat" was to be our controller like the RAF used. He via the radar would assess the situation and direct squadrons to certain areas to deal with the contacts.  This included tactical decisions to bring squadrons in from different angles together etc.  For those of us with any sense of history, it was complete immersion in the battle.  I ended up posting a transcript from a book on Douglas Bader and his last flight.  They had written down the radio transmissions from the Controller to Bader and the other squadrons.  With Dantoo doing the controller roll and the talk between squadron leaders and pilots, I'd have sworn I was there.  It literally sounded just like what I'd read in that transcript.

If Dantoo is willing to do that, don't pass it up.  It was a fantastic experience for those of us up in our kites that day.

What the heck.  Attached is the transcript of Bader's last flight.   Woody is the controller.  You can see how he's keeping the leaders in the air informed on what's going on.
