Need some advice VR vs Monitor

Gentleman,
I haven't flown for a long time but thinking about putting on my flight jacket once again. I'm and old guy and don't know anything about VR and not much about computers in general.  Eye sight is bad and at the very least I need a super large monitor. I do still do some design work using AUTOCAD and need a monitor that will work for both.  I welcome all suggestions.  Thanks!

VR is a game on new level. If immersion is what does it for you, VR is the way.
Resolution isn't all that high in VR and some eye problems might not be too much of an issue. There are some companies that make custom lenses for VR gogles as well - in line with your prescription.

If you can afford it, go VR route. it's a blast.

Thanks for the info Ski but I don’t think VR will work for me. I’m in my mid 70s and immersion is something I only dream about these days…lol.  Truth is I had to quit flying a few years back and I’m just trying to get as close to realism as possible without moving too far ahead in time. Just being able to read my 6 pack and watch my six will be enough for me. Do you have any suggestions of those curved monitors 34” and above?  Thanks again!

sorry, can't help, i stopped flying for years, tried VR and been back and hooked ever since.
As for "exercise" of VR - don't worry about it. You map a hatswitch to check 6 view and this way you never turn your head more then 90 degrees. And in VR doing rolling scissors successful will give you a boner, ever once you turn 80

i have HP Reverb G2 which seems to be a golden standard those days. 2070 super card will suffice for that and aces high.

I have the Oculus Rift and only being a "youngin'" at 63 I can tell you its a blast. As ski said you can still use the hatswitches to look around and save your neck, but while in each view can slide your head around posts and other obstructions with ease and feels very natural. The oculus Quest 2 is suppose to be available again starting on the 24th of this month. I have to OK from the "boss" to get one so Im leaning towards one of those.

If you are going to try VR be sure your video card can run it. If you dont like VR ..... I dont see how that is possible, but if you dont like it you could easily sell it to get your money back.

I agree with what's been said here about VR, but honestly you'll need a monitor either way - it might make sense to hold off on VR headset purchase until you're fully back into Aces High, have your controls set up and everything working OK.   There are some new models coming out later this year and next year which might be with looking at.   Valve Index 2, HTC Vive Pro 2, Deca Gear.

I got VR and it changed my life. Steam index VR though. Bit pricey but so worth it. DCS world is addicting and so is Aces High when I get it set up. Problem for me is that it is summer and I am so busy with other things I can hardly get the time to play lately

All you need for VR is your distance vision prescription.  I buy lens inserts from VR Optician; they create the lens inserts to my prescription and they snap right in over the lenses in the VR headset.  You can wear glasses inside the headset if there is enough clearance, but I learned my lesson on my first VR headset when I scratched the headset lenses with my eyeglasses.  So its been lens inserts for me since then.

My Graphic card is the MSI i5-6600 CPU  @ 3.30hz...whatever all that means. Does anyone know if that will work with VR?  Thanks!

"whatever all that means" indeed. MSI is a maker of motherboards and graphic cards, i5-6600 is a CPU as you said, made by Intel. You have left out the model of your graphic card.

I wear progressives, although my prescrip is mild.  I was concerned about how vr would work with glasses for me, and was happy to find I don't need glasses at all for VR.
