scummy behavior
« on: October 07, 2021, 06:31:25 PM »
I've noticed hints of this for a while, but back from vacation and it's in full force...

Context: I usually fly bishop, sometimes fly rook, occasionally fly nit. CV groups are very important assets for base takes (and general fun) and the smarter players know that.

When I logged on for bish this afternoon I found that every bish CV had been turned to point to the middle of nowhere. Travel time from their ports (if that was where they'd been turned from, no way to know) maybe 3 hours. I flew bish for an hour and then went rook. SAME THING

Oops didn't mean to end the post. Anyway. I tried to move one of the rook CVs and someone had taken command of it then logged off so I couldn't, even when I attempted to take command. My current rank is 30 so it would have been some experienced player who did all this.
Really, really scummy.

Some of the best fights come from CV involved base attacks. Waste of assets.

One thing I've learned over the years, is that no matter where you put the CV, someone will find it and sink it eventually. I think pushing the CVs into a hiding position only prevents possible good fights and potential base takes from happening. It's not as "strategic" as some believe.

CVs are hugely strategic, but that wasn't my point. My point was that some nit (maybe more than one) went rook and bish in order to turn CV groups to as non-threatening-to-nit-bases places as possible. Those CVs were literally pointed as far away from action as they could have been. That can't have been coincidence. The only possible purpose for such a thing would be to make nit bases safer and enemy ports more vulnerable. If HT is interested check the logs before 4PM PST to see who moved them like that. I hope he does.

You mean, if a player logs off while in command of CV they remain in command?
That doesn't seem right to me... :headscratch:

That must be new, because I sure don't remember that being a thing.  If it currently is, hitech will hopefully fix it pronto.  Here is the other problem though, what is to stop them from taking command and just going afk in a tower or out in the middle of nowhere for 12hrs?  How is that to be addressed?

This is why I say, if you want to take command of a CV, you MUST be in it's tower at all times while in command, period.  Sure, it won't stop someone from taking command and sitting it it's tower for 12hrs, until it's reported that is.  hitech will take care of the rest. :devil

If someone commands a CV then logs off, no one can move that CV unless they command it having higher (lower? you know what I mean) rank. This has been the case since I started playing. Apparently some nits are using that quirk to their advantage.

Why would the control of a cv remain in the hands of a logged off player?

I know zero about boats and gv's but I  doubt that is the case

If it is it sounds like a bug

Yeah doesn't sound right....

Speaking of which if you lose the port you should lose the CV after a predetermined amount of time... 24 hrs?. No hiding CV groups. Use it or lose it! Make the time long enough that the other side still has an incentive to try and sink it.

This is ONE of the reasons I left this game... I guess I'll have to re-evaluate whether or not I will return... seems nothing has changed and I prefer WOWC (even given its acrade aspects) because of this and others

That's really how it is. Haven't you ever tried to move a CV and couldn't get it to move? I have, dozens of times in my career. The only way to fix that was to ask someone of very high (low, whatever) rank to command and then either move or release it. Sometimes if I took command I could get it to move, sometimes not. But if I asked someone with a very low number rank to command and move it he would always succeed.

Your 24 hour idea is interesting. But then the fun of searching for hidden CVs (yes, to some of us that is fun!) would be lost....

<SNIP> Apparently some nits are using that quirk to their advantage.

I sense a little bias there?

And off topic but there is a 'Modify' button you can use to add to, edit, change a post.

Holding command of a cv after logging has to be a bug.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

In the past, if you logged off, you were in command of nothing. I would like to see the information you uncovered that shows folks are setting course then changing sides.

I unfortunately did not take screenshots of the CV paths, but I will in the future should it happen again.
Which it did this morning to the bishops, btw, and I did take a picture of the screen with my phone and showed it to a squaddie, who was also convinced that it was a deliberate act to sabotage the team. I stayed bishop so do not know if the same thing happened to the rooks.
