Google Earthquake Prediction Notifications
« on: October 11, 2021, 09:06:38 PM »
I think this is really cool.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/apps/124969803/new-google-trial-will-send-earthquake-alerts-to-android-phones-in-new-zealand

TLDR version, like google traffic - google earthquakes use realtime phone data to predict earthquakes. If you're at ground zero it doesn't help, but further away gives you a warning. I just got my second warning. The first one I was like wtf is this, then an earthquake hit then I was like "witchcraft!".

With the 2nd one I had enough warning to tell everyone at home earthquake incoming and a few seconds later it hit. It was a 5.3  - 150km from me.

So, I have that to look forward to when we finally settle.

Vulcan, would you happen to be an RC flier? I'm curios how many days out of the year are viable for flying?

The south island, hopefully not far from a flying field, or FClass shooting range.

Join up here for range info around the country: https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.nz/

It's also a really good forum for general NZ related hunting and firearms info.
