This sharkmouth-adorned P-47D-15 was the aircraft of Lt. Riley Stewart of the 525th FS. The red and white tail stripes were the unit marking of the 86th Fighter Group. The aircraft was written off at Grossetto airfield in Italy in October 1944 following a landing gear collapse. In February 1945 Lt. Stewart was flying a P-47D-27 on a free hunt sortie over Germany but was shot down and killed by flak.
