Not too bad, but it skipped my lifelong obsession Spit, the Spitfire XII that was the first with the Griffon. It shut down the hit and run 190s in 43 and The two squadrons, 41 and 91 Squadron, that comprised the Tangmere Wing in the Fall of 1943 were the high scorers in their Spitfire XIIs. Best mission, was nine 109s and 190s downed for no losses on October 20, 1943. Post war checks confirmed all of the kills too so it wasn't a case of over-claiming. That and it was a tough looking bird with the Griffon on the front and the clipped wings that improved the roll rate.
