This is the first of a couple of skins swareiam requested for the January FSO, set in Tunisia in 1943.
This is the C.202 of Lieutenant Giorgio Solaroli, CO of the 74th Squadron of the Regia Aeronautica while based at Tunisia in early 1943. Solaroli was Marquis of Briona and graduated as a fighter pilot in July 1940. Shortly after he took part in the Regia Aeronautica's brief and ill-fated foray into the Battle of Britain. Later he fought over Malta with CR42 biplanes and RE.2000bis attack aircraft. From mid 1942 he flew MC202s as CO of the 74th Squadron, flying against the RAF over Libya. During a fierce dogfight with 260 Squadron Kittyhawks he downed at least one enemy before being wounded in the leg and shot down himself, his aircraft belly landing inside a minefield. After surviving this he was back flying inside a month. As the tide turned against the Axis the 74th Squadron retreated into Tunisia where it fought both the RAF and USAAF, and then later Italy. Solaroli survived the war with 12.5 victory claims, he died in 1996.
