I've updated this P-51D skin with more current Spec, Power, Environment and Normal Maps, adjusted some weathering layers and markings opacity and changed the US star and bar insignia to one with a darker blue, in line with the rest of my P-51s.

I've always had a fondness for this Group's markings. Can hardly get more bold and colorful. The 356th FG, known as the "Blue Diamonds" or "The Martlesham Playboys" didn't have outstanding success in the War though.
From the
American Air Museum's website:
"The 356th Fighter Group flew 413 missions between 15 October 1943 and 7 May 1945 and suffered the highest ratio of losses to enemy aircraft claims of any Eighth Air Force Group. This gave the Group the reputation of being the 'hard luck' outfit. The Group was awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation for its support of the airborne invasion of Holland in mid September 1944."
Jersey Jerk's pilot, Major Donald J Strait, was known as the “John Wayne” of 356 Fighter Group. He was recognized with a Silver Star for his bravery and was given the title of “Top Ace”.
