B-17G 447th BG 710th BS "D-Day Doll"
« on: February 07, 2022, 03:36:53 PM »
"D-Day Doll" is the default B-17 skin in DCS.  It's a very colorful scheme and I was curious to see how it would look in AH.   Since its from the same BG as AH's default B-17G "Bit O' Lace", for consistency's sake I left a lot of Fester's influence on the shade of yellow for the tail and stabilizers.   He did a great job on that skin.

Thanks, Devil.  For comparison here's a screenshot from DCS I found, and the box cover art for a B-17 of the same BG from a Hasegawa model kit, and a great WWII color shot of a 447thBG formation:

Excellent job, oboe.  Your 17s get better with each one.

I'm curious about that olive drab gal in the center of the 3rd image.  :headscratch:

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

If her serial number is really 231225 (as best I can make out, it is), then here is some more info on her:

The fort from which the picture was taken looks to be olive drab as well, or at least has an OD outboard wing panel.

I hope there is more info on her, cause personally I dig OD gals, especially if she's got a flashy tail and (possibly) wing tips like this gal. :D

That gal did also peak my interest as that was the 2nd thing I noticed, after the OD gal. lol  Would be awesome to get more info on her as well.  Thing is, her wing tip appears...different.  It doesn't absorb the light as much as the rest of her wing.  But it looks "too dirty" to be bare metal either. :headscratch:

Pretty good info on here - she looks pretty war weary to me.  Both outboard wing sections look like they've been replaced...

Can't help but wish for those days where we could get a bunch of 17s up in a scenario.  Imagine the 447th BG filled out with guys flying both the default and this skin so it was a mix and match of correct skins.

Those where the days :)  Looks amazing Oboe, as usual :aok

Thank you, Dan.

I would love to see a scenario like that again also.   I'm reading "Masters of the Air" now, and wonder if we still couldn't somehow put together an 8th AF bombing campaign scenario, but set earlier in the War, before the 8th could even put up 300 bombers on a mission.  We get about 40 players per scenario now, and if we divide that into 24 Allied vs 16 Luftwaffe, we've got enough for 12 Spit Mk IX/P-47D-11 escorts, 12 B-17s or B-24s (36 planes in air) and 2 or 3 JGs putting up 109Gs, 190A-5s and maybe a few 110Cs?

Could rotate and do a couple different BG skins each frame.  Even with our current low numbers I bet we could make some lasting memories.

If only we had the E and F models...

But then I suspect some of you guys would be too busy skinning E's and F's.  I'm curious how many purse duels there would be for the Belle though.  :headscratch:
