TOPGUN in Aces High? Just spitballing
« on: May 21, 2022, 05:29:40 PM »
This is all just spitballing, looking to see what thoughts people have on this idea.

What if we had a sort of Top Gun program in Aces High? A scheduled ACM course or the likes.
I don't know where everyone else stands, but I personally suck at ACM, Callsign:Nash has like a 10:1 kill ratio on me, and I had to hop into an A6M Zero to get him. I bet there's a lot of other players like me that want to improve but are struggling. Videos are great, but I have a really hard time applying the ideas into the cockpit. I don't know how ridgid and scheduled it would be should we make something happen, but I just wanted to throw the idea out there where aces and other AH veterans can see it.

Personally, I don't deserve ace because my 5 kills were on the H2H against a newer pilot (maybe even a bot, not sure) that kept running a B17 at my field nonstop. Shooting that 17 down on repeat is the only way I clocked up 5 kills without dying.

Plans , requests for this or even just a scheduled air combat training program/ course has been asked for/ requested/ designed/ created...etc..etc..etc...by some dedicated players in the past.....a few have already previously spent  a lot of valuable time and effort and resources and I will leave it at that....no further comments from me on this particular idea and requests

The game certainly needs more ACM enthusiasts like there use to be. Wish there was a whole bunch of us to do the quick furball thing, or acm contest/training. It's just not what it use to be. Fun fights the other day!  :salute

You can request training in the Help and Training forum. Individual training suits most players. Once you know the basics you need to practice with another pilot in the same aircraft so that you're comparing maneuvering efficiency, not aircraft performance.

I remember attending a basic ACM training session a long time ago, when I was a new pilot.  There was also a training session specifically for the P-38.  This is up to the training group, and/or individuals interested in doing such a presentation.  Way back when I was in Warbirds, I received training from the senior members of my squad.

So ask the trainers for help.  You might also consider finding a pilot who is really good in your favorite airplane and ask him to show you some tricks.

I have low scores simply because no matter how much I practice, I am still a lousy show.   :bhead

Send a private message to SIK1 for acm training.  He's west coast so, depending on your location, working out times for training may be a chore, but he really helped me in the time we had together.  The only reason I had to move on was that I had other challenges demanding my attention.

But SIK1 is very patient, very understanding, and very eloquent when it comes to describing what you're doing wrong and how to correct it.  He'll also give you links to youtube videos for education and exercises to do offline to help your basic maneuvering skills.

Ahh I remember the day of going into the TA for a couple hours and helping any new guys I saw get up in the air, let them chase me around a bit, and shoot at me. Those were rewarding hours spent.  Also going in there with some squaddies to tighten up my gunnery, acm, and SA.  Lots of guys have spent thousands of hours in there helping other guys out.  I know when I finally get everything done I'll be spending tons of hours in the TA, offline, etc, just getting back in the groove.

OP doesn't have a 'bad' idea but it's hard to implement and get regular attendance for something like that I assume.  Just like it was back in the day.  I

I also recommend Monday Night Madness, MNM, as a way to improve your fighter ops.

I would love to! However I don't have a subscription yet. Peanut1 has very generously offered to sponsor my sub since I'm a broke teenager, but Hitech hasn't gotten back to us on that yet, so we're in limbo right now.

h2h room open all of the time which is great to see. Too bad no one flying around in there more often, its really fun for furballs, perhaps there needs to be a couple of more bases.

I blame it on no one having the "all" tab selected and simply dont realize its there.

Tig,

I don't think you need a subscription to use the TA, so if you would like to set up something let me know.

Well I really appreciate the offer, I'll keep it in mind!

I've buckled down on studying Requiem's BFM/ACM tutorials, and even just the first few videos has helped tremendously. I went from being unable to shake a tail and failing loops by smacking into a tree, and just today I actually managed to score two honest to goodness kills on callsign:Redfoxx on the Match Play Head to Head mode, in the same airplane!
Yet again it seems it all comes down to how hard I decide to study and practice.  :rofl
Watch out y'all, Tig is inbound and coming up hot!  :rock
