It wasn’t their fault, once upon a time US MSM was mostly honest and strived for investigative journalism and integrity in news/reporting. They just failed to recognize when that moral cornerstone was discarded in favor of political gain, persuasion and greed.
They continue to be blind to it even though it’s been entirely exposed, which is their fault now.
Honest journalism might get them to books, but that ship has sailed in the US.
