Just how fast is the Tesla Plaid? Watch and see
« on: July 17, 2022, 11:47:15 PM »

Pretty incredible. The other electric car, the Lucid is the second fastest sedan in the history of the world. I think we know what is first.

Watch the video and listen to some of these specs. For instance, the Lucid has three times the HP of the fastest car from 20 years ago - using 1/8th the energy

watch the videos when the Plaid races the  Lamborghini, McLaren, and the Porsche.
None of them were even close to the Plaid. A four door sedan beats super cars that cost a lot more.

 :rofl

Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

I thought it was incredible that they spotted the BMW a 75 mph running start and after the start the BMW floored it. So basically from a rolling start of 75 miles per hour and then stomping on the pedal from the fastest sedan in the world from 20 years ago, the Tesla caught up to it and beat it by the end of a quarter mile run. That's just amazing speed.

Why do people get almost violently angry when electric cars are brought up?  I believe our corporatists have us (read YOU) trained in an almost Pavlovian style.  I worked with a guy few years back.  He was making like $12 an hour and commuting 100 miles a day..  He drove an old beat up f250 dually...  Probably got 8 miles to the gallon.  He never complained about it though.. One day I said... "Ski (that was his nickname), why the heck don't you get a little economy crap box that gets good mileage to drive back and forth to work in?"  He got visibly shaking angry at the prospect...  "Men drive trucks.  I wouldn't get caught dead driving a bling blanging CAR.  Cars are for women."

This is the same sort of reaction I see whenever I see someone suggest that maybe an electric car might be a good option in some situations..

Just an observation.

why? who cares?

That Plaid makes three times the HP while using 1/8th the energy of that BMW. It's astounding how fast that car is.

My boss/bud has the cheap one.  It's easily the fastest car I've ever ridden in.  And I've ridden in some fast ones.  He's been using it for a 140 mile daily commute for two years.  It's yet to give him any trouble.  "ooh.. wait til it needs a battery.."   "oohh... wait til the battery goes dead and there's no charger..'  "ooohhh... If it catches fire they won't be able to put it out..."  Meh..  Better start getting used to the idea; the internal combustion engine is dead.

I am more impressed with electric use on locomotives where it makes more sense.

90% of the US can’t afford any type of new car without borrowing “financing” the large majority of the price. Until that changes, who cares how it’s powered?
They're casting their bait over there, see?

A lot of fossil fuel is used to produce any car, tesla included.

Fossil fuel is also used to produce the electricity to power a tesla.

I'm all for electric vehicles but the time is still not right.

Lets see how the western grid holds out this summer before tacking on extra loads.

With the latest heat wave, there is talk that Texas will have rolling brown outs.

I just saw a TED talk about the actual carbon output of electric vehicles when the battery production and energy for charging is factored in - and also taking into account the shortened range of EVs

So right now they are not really breaking even compared to regular gas vehicles, all things considered - and they did figure in the costs of both in the chain.

Batteries require materials that are harder to get.

I'm not ant-electric vehicle at all, but right now they really are not cutting carbon emissions. One thing though is that electric vehicles are way more efficient in their energy to power output.
