Bf 109F of 7./Jg 3 in December 1942. This aircraft was photographed at the Morozovskaya airfield, Jg 3's home base in the winter of 1942-43.From this airfield, they conducted combat operations over Stalingrad, often escorting in transports delivering the supplies desperately needed by the encircled 6th Army. Morozovskaya was also frequently targeted by the Soviet forces, and was evacuated in early January as the Red Army laid siege on the airfield. "White 4" was likely destroyed in one of the preliminary VVS raids, as Jg 3 had no 109F's remaining by January.
"White 4" features a winter whitewash made of random lines and squiggles. The III Gruppe shield was painted on the cowl, with white Id number and vertical Gruppe bar on the fuselage. Yellow theater ID marking are seen on the lower cowl, lower wing tips, and a band around the tail.
